Default Correct 586 box

Hello all,

Can someone show a photo of what the correct box for a 586 no dash looks like?

I’m wanting to get one but want to make sure it’s a period correct box

Thanks

Vic

Depending on whether or not your gun is an early issue, the Model 586 did come in both styles of boxes; i.e. 2-piece box or 1-piece folding box.

The 2-piece blue box will have metal corners with 4 "rings" and an end label with handwritten model specifics.

The 1-piece blue box will have "Revolver" printed in large letters across its top, and either a handwritten or computer-printed end label.

I don't recall if the early nickel guns came in gray boxes but it is likely they did.

You'd need an exceptionally early 586 no-dash for it to have originally shipped in the two-piece metal corner box. I know for certain that some extremely early 686's did.

If you have the big, huge S&W logo on your sideplate -- the right side of the revolver, there's a chance it came in the old school two-piece box with metal corners. If your S&W logo small and under the cylinder release on the left side of the revolver, much more chance that it came in the one piece blue flip-top box that says REVOLVER REVOLVER REVOLVER REVOLVER on it.

My 586 no dash came with a 2 piece cardboard box. When I get close to it I will try to post a picture of it.
