Model 624 Value
I was wondering if $XXX. is a good price for this 624. I saw it as I was completing another buy. Planning on going back to check it out. What do you think? Ive been reading about a recall regarding the cylinder metallurgy but I 'm OK with that I have 2 -.41 and 2 -.44 for making big noise
|
That's a great price!
|
Why is it still in the case? You should be shooting pics off your dinner table.
Seriously, I wouldn't have left without it, you'll never lose money on that deal. |
N frame, no lock, big bore, what are you waiting for? Offer $400 cash and then pay either price and RUN! (or just start the waiting period and paperwork)
/c |
I can not be sure from the pictures, but those could be Fishpaw grips, worth about $200.00.
|
The value of an ANIB unfired 624 6.5" bbl with box, papers, and tools ought to bring about $1,200.00 plus shipping to your FFL.
By the way I happen to have one for sale. |
Run back and see if you can put it on layaway. When I first started out was able to pick up a number of scarce guns that way. You might wait a long time to find another one in California. Not to mention that's it's a great price for this state.
|
If you go back quickly - and it's gone - my luck, of course - you'll know just how good a deal it was. Learn from my mistakes - go back - open the store up Monday - fondle it - make sure it's not shot loose - or out of time. Use plastic, if you must - credit, the 'American Way'. Shame on you - you bought a Ruger Redhawk... and left a nice 624! Gads!
Good luck. Stainz |

If you don't buy it let me know what gun store it is and I'll buy it.
|
Offer a trade, but get that sidearm.....condition being good, of course.
|
Good luck on that one. That's a good price and you shouldn't lose any money on it should you decide later to part company with it.
|
I paid $650 for one in pristine shape a couple of months ago. I saw another one at the gunshow yesterday for the same price.
I'll give you $500 right now for your trouble! |
Everyone needs a 624 or 24.

Congrats. I like my 24 and I think you'll like the 624 just fine. Even more if you handload. There's not a great selection of ammo from the factories. I don't hotrod mine, just keep the loads nice and pleasant as well as accurate.

Howdy
I have been looking for a Model 24 for years. They are scarce as hen's teeth around these parts. Except those ones with short barrels. I ran across a 4" 624 a few years ago and grabbed it. I don't remember exactly what I paid, but I think it was considerably more. 44 Specials are hard to find. Grab it if you can. I would. |
Nice catch! I bought one in as new condition last year from a friend for $350. Didn't need it as I've had a 4" 24 ever since they reintroduced them in the early 80's. Can't have too many 24/624's.

Thomas,
Great score on a very nice revolver, shoot it in good health (nice grips too!). We're all very happy for you! /c |
You made a nice "catch". I have a 6½" and a 4". They are as good a field revolver as you'll ever find.
As Joni states, you really need to reload to realize the best from a .44 Special. It is one of my favorite calibers. I cast my own bullets and reload so have many options. You can too!(:>)) Dale53 |
I have had several M/624's, great revolvers. I shoot mostly Unique, the classic "Skeeter load" 7.5gr. under a 240-250gr. SWC though lately I have been shooting more 200gr. RNFP with the same charge. A very pleasent shooting load in a 4" M/624, try it you'll like it!
|
I use 12 grains Blue Dot with the 429421 Hollow Point weighing 238 grains for 975 fps out of my 4" 24-3 and 937 fps out of my 4" 624.
Blue Dot has given the best accuracy with Lil Gun & 2400 in second place and Unique the poorest accuracy. But even the Unique is adequately accurate. As I'm tempted to take the occasional long shot I stick with the Blue Dot. Use it on whitetails, coyotes and assorted small varmints around the barns and fields here. http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/g...wboy/624-3.jpg http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/g...boy/24-3-7.jpg |
I think that is a good price for a 624, especially with those grips. I wouldn't think twice before buying another one at that price. In my opinion, the 624 is the most beautiful and elegant stainless steel revolver S&W ever made. They look great with with either magna or target grips. The Mountain Guns (625's, 629's, and 657's) are close, and beautiful in their own right, but I think the square butt frame seperates this one from the rest. Classic in every respect. I really like my 624.

Living in an area with limited shops. Shops where most ANY Smith revolver is in the $400-$500 range....and that 624 would be $700+...the original post amazes me.
Then again...passing on that 624 to buy a RUGER...THAT surely amazed me. FN in MT |
Gotta love those grips.

Not sure from original post if you have checked with S&W re the 624 recall for cylinder material strength/heat treatment. Here is an old contact reference that you may wish to try: Kate Fredette (1-800-331-0852 Ext. 218 ).
I called/emailed to get 2 of my 624s checked [other had red "C" on box]. Good luck and happy shooting. Regards, Dyson |
Hello thomashoward,
No one has mentioned it yet so I'll point out that you can check to see if your serial number is in one of the ranges that was subject to recall by reading the FAQ sticky. 624s are attractive revolvers with a classic profile and are great belt guns. I hope you like yours. Best Regards, Gil |

My heart was going pitty-patter waiting to see if you went back and bought that. I can sleep now tonight.
That is easily $700.00 or even higher with the Fishpaws on it and no "anything else". You bought it for the price of a good K-Frame .38 Special. Congratulations. With a 240 grain bullet at 850 to 1,000 fps it will be controllable and will do just about anything most folks need a handgun for. |
