How to matte finish a SS M60?
Hi, new guy here. Recently acquired an older M60 2 1/8" in SS. A little too shiny for me but price was right. Is it possible to micro-bead blast the frame & cyl to reduce the shine? If not, what method can best be used?
Thanks,
RG

Refinishing M60
Your bead-blasting idea will work just fine. I've used glass beads on stainless steel several times and it gives it that factory matte look. Just be sure to plug your cylinders and barrel at both ends and completely disassemble the revolver. Afterward, I used high pressue air to blow it out thoroughly, followed by aerosol brake cleaner and then a solvent bath before reassembly with your lubricant of choice.

If you do so, I hope you plan to keep the gun forever as original "small J" Model 60's are becoming VERY desirable these days, especially the earlier 1960's era production pieces, because of their "Vietnam" connection and a lot of guys are looking for them because of all the stories of SF guys and chopper pilots who carried them........... and bead blasting one will signifigantly lower the resale value. It will look cool though with a matte finish!
I bought a mid-80's production 60 at Gander Mt. for $220 and once some other guys there found out what I paid for it I thought I was gonna get mugged in the parking lot

I prefer the beadblast as opposed to SS on a 60.
Bring the trigger and hammer to a high polish and it adds a very nice contrast.

I am just the opposite I don't like matte finish and usually end up polishing them. Different strokes for different folks I guess. That's why they make different finishes on guns.

Stan - no it's late 80's so not collectable....yet!
Bucky - now that's what I'm talkin 'bout! Really nice.
Dean - This will be my cc gun. Don't wanna scare the non-carry public with my gun tot'n bling is all. But, yup, it is kinda purdy all shiny and such. I'm going for function tho.

These are the ones people are starting to scour the Earth for!
Most that got 'em don't give them up that often, so they are getting hard to find unless some small PD trades in a bunch of them when the plainclothes and detectives go to micro-Glocks or some such. A distributor down in GA had about 30 of them listed on GB and they sold pretty briskly.

I can under stand a matte finish for carry. I don't carry anything and I like to change the looks on my guns sometimes. Here is my pimped M60.
