Default New to me 17-6 !!!!

I have been looking for one of these or a 617 pre lock/mim for a long time. It is something that almost seemed impossible in California since I have to find someone local for a ppt and cannot have it shipped in.
I was able to find this 17-6 a month or so ago and after problems making arrangements with the seller I have finally gotten it home. I paid 640 for it with a brick or target ammo. It is probably 98%+ condition with the box and factory combat grips. Original owner said he took the grips off the gun the moment he bought it and replaced it with rubbers.
Will get it to the range in the next week or so.

Well done! Beautiful 17-6. You'll never regret buying it, and you'll love shooting it. I've had my 17-6 (almost identical to your's, except for mine has original wooden grips) since early this year, and will never let it go. Mine shoots best with the Federal 525 copper-plated HP bulk ammo.

Very nice, congrats. I picked up a 17-6 no lug not long ago in near new condition like yours, really nice guns. I haven't shot mine yet.

That is one sweet .22! The accuracy of these rimfire S&W's amazes me. My 6"17-3 is the most accurate revolver I own.

Very nice score and congrats. You did real good and them grips really set the revolver off.

Default Model 17-6

Dear Member
You own one of the best Smith and Wesson revolvers ever built, very adecuate for handgun hunting, plincking and precission slow pistol match shooting.
I had one exactly the same as yours which I bought in Buenos Aires to Pedro Worns gun shop during the nineties..
This was an excellente gun, very accurate at long distances, I shot jackrabits from 50 to 100yds using Remington 38gr JHP golden bullets and with Winchester 40gr copper coated solid point, both Hi Speed ammo.
Up to 50yds after, at the most, 3 shots I pinned the running jackrabit!!..and at 100yds sitting on the floor resting both forearms on my bent knees and back rested on the front wheel of my Ford F-100 truck all that was needed is a one shot or at the most two shots to get a tasty rabbit stew for dinner!!!!!!!....
At the range offhand using match ammo usualy Federal I could average five shot groups in the 3/4 to 1 1/2 inches!!!!!!!!!!..
Try hangun hunting!!!, you will enjoy it very much!!
Congratulations excellent handgun!!
Best Regards
Roberto Renauld

That's gorgeous! I have a 617 just like it but you're making me think about adding a 17 to my collection.

Nice snag! I picked up a 4" full lug 17-6 a few months ago with the combat stocks and box for just under $600, also in California. I had to talk the individual into selling it to me, he was the original owner and bought it for his wife but she didn't shoot it so lucky me. I asked how much and then said I'll take it. No regrets at all! Enjoy

There are several 17s very similar to that one for sale right now on GunsAmerica and GunBroker for about the same money. I'm holding out for a full-lug no-lock 4" in either a 17 or 617 as I have a 6" no-dash 617.
