Hi all, I'm new to this forum. I already have a 9mm Beretta but wanted something more reliable, better self-defense take-down power and more accuracy. I tried the 686 at the gun range was was hooked on the 357.

Looking at 357s that were available, narrowed down my choice to the 627 v-comp. I managed to find one that didn't have the 2 tone appearance and ordered it.

Here's the question. It looks like they stopped making the single color 627 and went to the 2 tone. When was this? Will the original v-comp be a collector's item now that it is out of production?

I doubt the original 627 will have much collector value because they made a ton of them. It certainly is preferable since the two tone guns are as ugly as a baboon's backside. Sometimes I wonder what those people at the SW marketing department are smoking.

Whatever they are smoking it is illegal in most states!

The construction of the two tone v-comp appears like they ran out of parts for the stainless, so they used what was on hand in inventory. I'm sure it's a great gun, but not fond of the appearance.

The ones without the lock are hard to find and there was a limited production of them. The next batch had the lock in them and a truck load was made.

Very nice weapon. I can't wait until mine comes in.

I guess I'm in the minority as I like the 2-tone 627 v-comp...just got one a few days ago and I love it....

Nice setup! i was entertaining the idea of a Red Dot sight. There a lot of options out there.

As a follow-up. I got my gun in last week. I've had it to the range 3 times, the last time with my wife shooting it.

My impressions: This gun is very accurate! I've shot a 686 6" a few times and the v-comp is just as accurate.

The wife has never shot a 357 Magnum before and she was consistently getting bulls-eyes at 25 feet. She is used to shooting my 9mm.

One time while shooting 38 Specials through it, somebody asked me if the tip was a "silencer" because 357s "have more of a bark". He assumed I was shooting standard 357 loads... kind of an interesting comment.
