Congrats! One of the finest fighting guns made, IMO.

Not much talk about them here is right. Possibly because they are so scarce. I looked for one for years, and never saw one in person. I finally cobbed together a poor mans version. 3" 13-3 altered to DAO with a bobbed hammer. Trigger job and chamfered charge holes.

Sweet carry gun. I qualified with it a couple of years back. Just love that sixgun.

The 3" FBI 13's also occupy much of the model 13 talk. I always enjoy reading that some lucky guy found one of the PC 13's. Enjoy it! Regards 18DAI.

I love this gun! I put 150 rounds thru it today and I can't help but thinking that S&W needs to make these guns again. They are perfect.

Wasn't the M547 in 9mm based on the M13?

Just my two cents but I think a better ultimate gunfighter , LEO , Defense revolver type gun would be an L frame. A 581 or 681 with a 3" barrel, round butt, 7 round cylinder, luminesent front sight plus all the other features of the PC13 except the barrel porting would be out-fricken-standing

I remember reading an article in an old issue of Combat Handguns on such a revolver, I think it was called the 681 PC or something like that. It had a greyish stainless finish and was quad-ported. Dale

I've never seen one but I remembered immediately reading about it in the SCSW. I like the quote, "A very serious carry revolver".
I've got a really nice 13-2 3", it's not a PC-13, but for me anyway the above quote applies.

What does it look like? What barrel length? I've never heard of the PC13, and would really like to see a picture. I assume it's a Model 13 with Performance Center upgrades.....

We all have our various idea`s of what the "Perfect" self defense revolver would be. I doubt there is one ultimate right answer. Like many of us, I have had literaly several hundred revolvers pass through my hands. I probley own close to 8 to 12 that I could make a case for.
My 66-3 3" lew horton special with trilijon sights, ported etc would be a good canidate, so would my 24-3 4", a python 2 1/2", python 4" and my 4" 25-5.
I wore revolvers for over 35 years on several security jobs. I never had to shoot at anyone. I worked tons of OT, and when you work many 12 and 16 hour shifts, weight and bulk hanging on your belt count a lot! 65 hour work weeks were my norm.
I own probley 20 handguns that many would be proud to carry, and that doesnt count my 6 1/2" barreled guns etc.
We were issued .357 mags and .38s. I started and retired carrying a .38 colt offical police. I always had available to me the colt, ruger speed six and 4" s&w 586s. Since we had to carry just .38 ammo and didnt use .357s in the 357s, I went for the lighter colt OPs.
On the rare occasion that I go ccw, guess what I carry with all the guns I have? A 3" model 36! It "feels" half as light as the 3" 66-3 or 2 1/2" python.
I really carry a S&W model 40 the most in just my pocket, followed by the 36 3" if I want concealed with a pancake holster. The majority of my time is rideing atv`s in the boonies. When I do that I mostly pack a .44 special in my luggage box. Here are a few of my favorites, kind of in the order they get carried too.

Nice gun but my go to revolver is a PC 586 L-Comp. I've had a little work done to mine.

I have K, L and N frame 3" revo's. I am very fond of all of them. The N frames are the most comfortable to shoot, but if it's carry time, out come the K frames. More comfortable to carry and just feels good when handling.

I don't have a PC13, but I do have a Brad Lewis custom 13 that is one sweet little 3"er...

Nice as it is... I do prefer this slightly beefier version: the 3" 581. For me this is the ultimate gunfighter's revolver. I asked Mark Hartshorn to make this for me from what was originally a tired looking, square butt, neglected 4" 581. The transformation to a round-butt 3"er is stunningly nice.

I have a 3" 64, great gun, like a tank, shoots great, BUT, I have a 2.5" 19 thats just as easy to carry and has alot better sights.
Personally I would like to have a 3" 19 or black kote 66, with a ramp front nightsight, bobbed hammer, smooth radiused trigger. No porting/no comp. Plan to get one made someday. 19 with a shortened 3" model 14 underlug barrel . Pinned front night sight. Like the very short run of LH model 19's that were magnaported. Bob

The PC13 is to me easily one of the most perfectly set-up Smithy wheel guns for serious use -- and it is just plain gorgeous to look at. (Close second is its sibling, the 65 Lady Smith.)

One of the "premium" online dealers who specialize in hard to find, generally NIB models (claimed, anyway -- and charge through the roof accordingly) has a PC13; they're asking $2000 for it.

So nice to "see" you here again!! I've missed your posts and beautiful pictures.

That 581 you had made may be the most beautiful L-frame I've seen. Thank you for sharing it with us. Hope to see you around the boards my friend! Best regards, 18DAI

Really hate to point this out but even Jerry has problems with the 617 10 shot. Count the shots in his run of 10 22 shorts in the video and watch the hammer 10 pulls 9 shots. Getting the mechanical timing for 10 shots DA in a K frame is a nightmare. I had 3 so far, 1 early six shot, 1 10shot alloy and a basic 617 10 shot and both 10 shots had the same issue with missed firing pin strikes if you shot fast. Great single action though.

Allen-frame,
I see you have PC13 and F-comp. Would you mind to share about recoil and mussle flip? Which one is better?

I almost picked up a 3-inch Model 13 a while back but the owner wanted too much for it. Still for my big hands I think I have a pretty good fighting iron and it will take any load you can dish out. The good old short barreled 27. The FBI thought very highly of there short barreled Registered Magnums and so didn't General Patton. It fills the hand well and even with the hotter loads recoil is fairly mild even doing some one handed shooting.

Hey man.. Good to see you too. And thanks for your comments. I haven't been doing too much with my revolvers for a while, and as a musician and photographer, I've been hanging out on music/guitar, photography, flashlight, and other gun forums.

Yes, my 581 3" custom is my most valued revolver... It is an amazingly beautiful and well-spec'd defense revolver. Mark Hartshorn of Pinnacle was the pistolsmith and he is ranked among the very best.

I second the 27. Mine has a long barrel and I don't mind toting it.
But if I ever find a 3" or 4" it would be the ultimate defense weapon.
A manstopper with 6 (or 8 rounds in the PC UDR) and easily managed recoil?
What more could you ask for?

I've posted this picture in other threads, but for my money, this is the gunfighter's ultimate revolver.

David Lapell- that 27 is beautiful. Other than the SAA and Python, the 3.5 inch model 27 is my favorite gun profile. All business.

And DHart- that 581 is one of the most beautiful guns I've ever seen.

I've been looking for a model 13 for a while. I've run into two problems. One- I haven't found any for sale at any shows or stores here, and 2- whenever I get enough money saved up, it burns a hole in my pocket and I end up buying another gun instead of keeping it for any 13 I might stumble across.

Nonsense! I have both an L-Comp and one of the PC French GIGN copies (4" comped L-frame). I wouldn't hesitate to carry either one after extensive firing of both with healthy doses of 2400 behind 158g bullets. Yea there's a flash of burning powder in the gases ejected by the compensator but I will bet you it is no brighter than the muzzle flash of the guy shooting at you, which justifies you using the gun in the first place.

My gun smith is right now working on a MagnaPorted 681 to turn it into my idea of the "gunfighter's ultimate revolver"...what ever the heck that means. (LOL)

My preference is for NO ports on a defensive handgun for a couple of reasons... if the revolver needs to be fired from close retention position, that places the ports pointing straight up toward your face and ear (and close to your clothing) - the negative effects of blast, burning powder, and noise (and, possibly, heat) to you, the shooter, from this shooting position should be clear enough to go without further description.

Secondly, I want as much blast, fire, sound, and pressure as possible to be directed in one direction only - straight away from me and focused directly on the threat.

I think the benefit of porting on a large magnum hunting pistol can make porting worthwhile. Other than that, I would never choose a ported pistol for defense purposes.

We each make our own personal choices in such matters and to each his/her own.

While not technically a "PC", my 681 3" with PC barrel is a quasi-PC custom done for me by S&W. While not as beautiful as the deep blued Smiths, a good case could be made for this stainless model being an "Ultimate" gunfighter's revolver.

This one started life as a 4" square butt 681. I sent it to S&W and the Performance Center customized it by installing the 3" PC (NON-ported) barrel and cutting the square butt to be a round butt. I think it came out magnificently.

I'd have to agree. I don't have much experience with ported revolvers, but ported or compensated rifles are about the biggest abomination to hit the firing line. Can't imagine firing a .357 or .44 indoors sans hearing protection in a sd situation.

On another note, a tip 'o the hat to DHart for teaching me a good chunk of what I know about photographing handguns back a couple of years ago via some very helpful posts! How about some tips on rifle photography?

No worries... contact a top grade revolversmith, like Mark Hartshorn who did my custom 581 shown above, and a square butt profile can be converted to round butt profile no problem.
