Gun show find 625 MG w/pics*Updated 11/29/10*
Here is my new to me 625 in 45 Colt. I picked it up from an individual today in the last few minutes of a gun show. It needs to have original sights installed as it currently has night sights installed. I got it for $450 I think I sprained my arm getting my wallet out! Does anyone know the correct heights for the front sight and rear sight?
Update 11/29/10 got the sights installed and went to the range for a test!

Dang, you stole that one! I just happened upon a 625-9 Mountain Gun, virtually new, in my local shop yesterday and got them down to $575 before taxes. Had a chance to shoot it today and it is sweet! The action was very light when I looked at it in the store, and today I had about 5 light strike misfires out of 100 rounds. Did some reading on the forum and discovered that I needed to check the mainspring tension screw. Sure enough, the screw was backed out two full turns, possibly by the previous owner trying to "tune" the trigger pull, or just by shooting loose. Anyway, tightened it up, and the trigger pull went up as well. That's ok, I'll just have to shoot it more to smooth it out!

625-9 Mountain Gun
I'm lucky enough to have a 629-9 MG myself. I got it for a similar price, well under $600. Mine also has a exceptionally smooth trigger/action. If you want to make it even better, buy and install a Wolff Spring Kit for the S&W N-frame. In includes a 12,13 and 14 llb rebound spring and a reduced power mainspring. I installed the 12 llb rebound spring and the reduced power mainspring and it is light and smoooooth.
I have yet to have a light strike with the reduced power mainspring, no misfires at all. I shoot my own reloads and no problems at all. The heavy weight of the cylinder seems to assist in the DA trigger pull.

NICE........!!
That is a fine Long Colt. These are capable of a bit more than one will be led to believe (accuracy and heavy load capability). I shoot some heavy stuff and have friends that have done the same for YEARS and they are as tight as the day they were purchased. I am quite happy with 300 gr. @ 1100 or a little heavier at 325gr. at 1150 fps. A great load and less abusive than a comparable .44 magnum. Have fun and enjoy it........I still want to upgrade my sights to what you removed. Sprefix

Great gun and great shooting! That's about how mine shoots off a rest at 25 yards, if I can hold it steady.
I've enjoyed tinkering with loads to find one it likes.

What a steal/deal. Congrats on a fine S&W and great caiber. Good job on the sights and shooting too from the 7 yard line !. HAD a MG in .41 mag and sold it like an idiot. Haven't found one since in the right price range.
Don't sell it or you will regret it. Give you 6 C notes and pay the shipping if you do !

Ditto on the type or grips you installed. I have a lightly used blued 45LC MG on layaway. $550 out the door.

My wallet would have caught fire from the friction of getting pulled out of my pocket. Nice find.
