I have 2 581's, no 681's yet but it's a goal

It truly is everything you need and nothing you don't......no flimsy sights to mash up, beefy construction.......it's a fighting gun made to put .357 slugs on a bad guy in DA at combat ranges of 0-20 yards, not a 25 yard single action Bullseye revolver

The "new" equivalent would be the 619 I would gather.

Well I've been a lurker for a while now but I couldn't resist this thread for my first post!

This was my Dad's and was handed down to me when he passed in 1999. He bought it from one of the local PDs when they made the switch to autos. It was in rough shape but he cleaned it up and sent it to S&W for their laser engraving treatment. Right now it's wearing the combat stocks from my Model 19. Hope ya like it.

Are you sure about that being factory, did you buy it new? Only reason I ask is it has a square butt and no perforance center seal on it. Is the barrel ported on it? Plus it looks like a six shooter not a seven.

The one I have I built it from parts. Have a good one, John
