Default S & W Model 520 NY State Police

Came across a Model 520 in the box but without S&W grips. Asking price is $650.00. According to the blue book and the Standard Catalog, a 98% item is about $800.00 but that is with grips. I sense that the box is worth the cost of N style grips. I'd appreciate any comments on what other experience is as there were only 3000 made in 1980.

for 650 you oughta go on and jump on that. Proper grips would probably cost you about $75~100 if you wanted them

At $650 it would already be mine or on lay-away. Go back in a hurry, it won't be there long. I would not worry about the grips, you can replace them.

Proper grips would be the N-frame modified magnas or so called PC grips. Don't worry that they would not be numbered to the gun, none of them were!

The 520 is one of my "grail guns", I love N-frames and also fixed sight .357's, for $650 for a nice one I would do whatever I had to do to get it.....max out a credit card, sell something, live on rice for a month, walk to work.......

I have been asking for a "Classic" version of the 520 for some time now but S&W still refuses to make one.....all they would have to do would be to take the new 58 and drill the chambers and bore to .357! The 520's are becoming very collectible and almost priced out of the realm of getting a "shooter" piece since most of them are found in excellent condition being that they were never issued.

650 is a steal compared to the current prices for that model.
Good luck - Joe
