Default Shooting the Bodyguard 38

I picked one of these up a couple of weeks ago the price was right and I was looking for a Christmas present to myself.

Couple of observations on this gun from todays trip to the range.

Recoil is not bad with +p rounds but I am used to shooting a 44Mag so that may have something to do with it.

Trigger is nice and smooth and I am sure that it will get better over time.

While the grip is fine I would like a little more in the hand I look forward to see what Hogue comes out with in the next coupe of months I would like something with finger grooves.

The laser sucks. Today was a overcast day I was also shooting my Glock 32 with a CT and there was no comparison. I could not see the Insight at any distance where I could see the CT at 25 Yards easy. I would prefer a grip switch over the hard to use button any day.

At 7 yards I was hitting 2 feet low using the sights gave the gun to other shooter he was low also. Now I dont expect to cut clover leafs with this gun but I would like it to hit where it is pointed. Ammo used was Rem 125 HP +P loads

I will spend more time playing with it before I decide to carry it I do like that it is light and easy to pocket but for now I will continue to carry my Glock

Sounds like you have one of the lasers installed before the sighting in instructions were corrected. Checks S&W website or use this:

I like mine just fine. There are a bunch of threads you can search for with more info & opinions. One I got the laser sighted in I've been making life miserable for 3-inch bulls at 7 yards. I empty the cylinder as fast as I can reaquire the target.

Did not use the laser at all due to not being able to see it in the lighting conditions it is not bright enough. But it is regulated to POA if you project it on a wall in side.

I also had one misfire where the cylinder did not rotate causing a double strike on a empty

I've had the cylinder fail to advance during dry firing. It seems to happen if the trigger isn't fully reset. I also had to adjust my trigger finger postion to the distal joint crease instead of the fingertip pad but that's probably just me.

I took my BG38 and a 638 (with CT grip) to the range yesterday to sight in both gun's lasers using my 158 gr lead +P HP ammo. Both guns shot about 3" higher than the "iron sights" at 15 yards. The BG also was shooting 2" left. I adjusted the CT laser in three rounds. The BG's laser has a much more sensitive adjustment and I required 15 rounds to adjust it. Both guns now will put the 158 HPs where the laser dot shines if I do my part.
My side by side comparison of these two airweights supports what Hmebuildr mentioned, the BG seems to have less felt recoil than the 638, it has a smoother trigger and the grip is a tad bit small. I like the CT laser activation on the finger grip, however, some of the people that have shot my CT equipped guns have a difficult time keeping the laser on while they are squeezing the trigger. This seems to be more common with the CT grip that is flush with the gun butt.
