Please tell me the difference between the SMith Wesson revolver 686+ and the 627? I am new to the gun world, and do not understand all of the lingo. Thank you!

I believe that frame size is the big difference. 686 is on the L frame and 627 on the N frame, with the N frame being the next size up from the L.

Guntherapist is correct. Also, the 686+ is a 7 shooter--the 627 is an 8 shooter.

The 686+ is slightly smaller and has a slightly smaller grip frame. L Frames like the 686+ use the same grips that fit the K Frame. These grips will not fit the N Frame. The L Frame will have a shorter reach to the trigger, compared to the N Frame 627, if similar grips are used.

Because of these smaller dimensions many find the 686+ easier to shoot and will give up one less round in capacity, seeing that as a fair trade-off.

Both chamber the .357 Magnum and .38 Special. Both can be used with moonclips, if the cylinder is appropriately machined for their use.

One of my 627's is a 6 shooter and another is a 8 shooter. The frame size is going to be the difference that wont change.
