586 snub?
Has S&W ever made a 586 with a shorter than 4" barrel? I have a 686 with short barrel but would love to have it's blued equivalent.

Yes in 2.5". It was exported to Brazil and only 158 were shipped to US distributors. I also beleive they were 38 special. I have seen one locally and a couple here, all going for a $1000 or more.

I have a 3" 586 that I bought it in the 90's.
Hell of a great gun, super accurate to boot. Close to if not my favorite gun.

I have a 2 1/2" Model 586-4 in .357 I picked up many years ago. I believe it's a product code 103500 made in 1993 but since I didn't get a box I've never really been sure.
I'd love to find a 3" one.

You are correct on the date and product code according to the book.

How about a L-frame show and tell?
RSR, I think, did a run of 3" 586s a few years back. I posted a poor picture of mine in the thread above.

2 1/2"
Here is my 586 that I was lucky enough to pick up at a bargain price earlier this year. It is LNIB with all the paperwork.

The Brazilian exports were 38special only. There was a run of 586 2.5" in 357 mag. I don't know how to find out how many 2.5" were made in 357, but I am very interested to find out.
Member Ihump1961 has posted photos of an extremely nice 586 3" that lettered to a short run made for RSR distributors. I suspect almost all 586 3" and 2.5" chambered in 357 were made for RSR. Except for the more current production L comp.
Mine is a 586-4 with a BRF serial prefix chambered in 357 mag and its not a Brazilian export.

A clean as a pin 3" 586 would make an excellent Barbecue Gun in 38 or 357.
Way better than my current Barbecue Gun a 2" Model 15-5. Well maby not way better, just better.
I am Old as Dirt according to the kids who are now around 40. I carry Stainless all the time, but my Barbecue Revolver has to be Hi Quality Blued. That is just how it is supposed to be.

Boys, those 2 &1/2 and 3 inch barrel L frames give a Python a run for their money in the "best lookin' revolver ever" category!

Now,why did y'all have to go and bring up Pythons and ruin a perfectly good 586 thread?

Ok now you didn't have to go that far Bobby.
It sure sounded like a questionable comment that a snub nose L frame would give a python a run for their money in the looks department. Then you go and post a photo of a snub python and remove all doubt Gee thanks.
I have a 4" and 6" but can't find one shorter, I mean can't afford one shorter.
Thats an Awesome snub.
