Default Holster for S&W Model 627, 2.625", Performance Center, Smooth cylinder

I'm new to this forum and have what may be a question that has already been answered.
I'm looking for a belt holster and/or a shoulder rig for my 627, 8 shot (Blood Work) revolver. Finding a holster that will accept the smooth cylinder is a real problem. I have talked with local holster makers who have said they can manufacture a holster, but am reluctent to let them have my weapon so they can make the necessary mold.
Any assistance will be appreciated.

A revolver with an unfluted cylinder will fit just fine in a leather holster made for the same revolver with a fluted holster.

If you're ordering your holster from a custom shop and don't like the fluted look in the leather, tell them you don't want the holster hand-boned.

I got a Galco shoulder rig for mine. I talked to a very helpful customer service guy who worked it all out. i have been very happy with it. If you decide to get one, and get the speed loader cases for the off side, I can tell you they do not work so well with moon clips. They are made for speed loaders and are a little oversize for the moon clips, but they will work.

Thanks guys. Your information is really helpful.

In talking with representatives from "custom" shops at a recent gun show, NONE of them mentioned that they could make a holster and omit the boning for the fluted cylinder. Your information gives me something else to work with!

Again, my thanks to XTrooper, Nightowl and Dump1567.

XTrooper is correct. I make holsters for the unfluted cylinders just this way, no "boning" or the cylinder flute areas. The fit is just fine.

My pleasure.

BTW, Ray aka Lobo Gun Leather makes top shelf holsters. I can highly recommend his work.

Truett,

There's a lot of holster "makers" & a lot of just "sellers" out there. Like the difference between a "good dining restaurant" and a "fast food" place. I think there's a difference in the "quality" of leather & workmanship when you go to a good "maker" like Ray at Lobo. I just happen to have several holsters made by DM Bullard, and boy i can really see the difference from my DeSantis ones. Within 2 weeks the DeSantis was scraped up down to the bare leather, where the cylinder bumped into the edge when reholstering. Had to redo it with a Black Marker Pen. Not so with the Bullard. Most of the holster "makers" have a waiting period, but well worth it. Like Bullard has a 16-20 week wait. Here is a couple pics of my Bullard Combat holster with my 627-PC in it. Good luck.
Carl

My PC 627 UDR in its Lobo Gun Leather "Enhanced Pancake" holster. Also shown are both it and my M&P 340 in its own Enhanced Pancake.

These holsters are great. They keep your gun tight against your body which allows for very comfortable all-day-carry whether your gun is big or small, heavy or light.

Carl: That's a great-looking holster!

Thumbs up

Truett Chadwick,
I have recently had the pleasure of examining several variations of holsters produced by Ray at Lobo.

In fact I had one of my students wearing a 327NG in a Lobo IWB holster for our two day shoot just a couple of weeks ago. He found it concealed the big N-frame quite well and it was comfortable in all positions including seated in the cars with the seat belts on.

You will find that the quality of the Lobo products is right up there and the pricing is reasonable.

I am sure Ray can fix you up with what you are looking for.

My 627 rides in a Bell Charter Oak Custom "Grizzly Bear Snub" IWB holster. 1 o'clock appendix position, standing, seated, driving, it is comfortable and secure. Doesn't interfere with seat belt, nor my ummm ... "over hang".

Gracias, Carl!

Recently, I've been having a few problems with my right shoulder and wrist. Consequently, Ray built me a modified Tom Threepersons which sits low enough relative to my belt line that I can draw my UDR from it with minimal pain. So, when my shoulder and/or wrist are acting up, I use the Tom Threepersons.

Here's a photo of it.

For what it's worth, a couple of months ago, I bought an IWB holster for an SP101 on this forum from Lobo, and I am more than satisfied with the quality and function.

Just got my Lobo Enhanced Avenger this afternoon for my 3in M65-5 Ladysmith from Ray and it is beautiful. Wore the gun under an untucked shirt about an hour or so ago to run to the store...carries like a dream and conceals well for an OWB holster. That is exactly where I would look for a holster for your 627 if it was me...
