627PC no dash
I bought this 627PC several years ago and it has sat in my safe long enough. I would like a little information on it if anyone could please help.
Stamped 627-PC on the frame
dotted type font of 086 on the crane arm
Black box from factory with factory SW label has the following information:
Model : 627
Caliber: .357
Barrel: 5
Fin.: S
Stock: RB
Features: 8 Shot
Product code : 170089
Serial Number RMJ003X
Spec Ord. : 7153
It also has a label on the back :
SGL handgun SP ED with a bar code.
The black box has all the original paperwork, moon clips, etc
It has not been shot and has no cyclinder ring mark.... yet.
I am not sure I want to keep it in the safe and not use it some day. I was just wondering on the value of what appears to be a no lock early model?
Any information would be help full.
Thanks
Jerry Snyder

You have a very nice revolver. It is from the original run of 300, 8 shot, 357 Magnum model 627s that were commissioned by Lew Horton as a Distributor Exclusive offering back in 1997. At the time, this was to be the only run of 8 shot revolvers.
I too purchased one from that first run. It is in the upper left hand corner of this group photo. Mine is the 27th production revolver manufactured. I changed my grips and added tritium night sights to this revolver.
Your revolver is the 3x production revolver manufactured. Your revolver was manufactured on June 2nd of 1997.
These first 300 revolvers sold so fast that Lew Horton did a second run of 300 pieces later in 1997. The revolver in the upper right hand corner is from the second run. That one is the 357th production revolver. This example was left in 100% stock configuration.
This design became so popular that it was eventually added to the S&W catalog as standard offering. The 8 shot, 357 Magnum revolver has been offered in many additional configurations over the last 13 years. Variations are available in carbon steel, stainless steel and scandium construction.

Mine is a fantastic shooter! i don't shoot it often, but I am always impressed with the way it handles and what it does on target. They are pricey, especially in the condition yours is in. The advertisement that was sent to me when I purchased it were said they had the ball detent lock, but mine and others I have seen pictures of had the standard extractor method.

Thanks for the information. Here are a few pictures I took this morning.
Any estimation of the value if I decide to trade it or turn it?
Thanks
Jerry

I helped a friend buy one off Gunbroker last year for just under $1k. With the economy being what it is I would say somewhere around there.
Nice looking gun, by the way. I assume you have the original grips with it?

I have a model 327 that has me scratching my head somewhat. It's from the 2005 Lew Horton series, 5" 2-piece barrel, unfluted cylinder, all alloy etc. I bought it because it was love at first sight. I had so much fun shooting it the first time I found myself watching the gun instead of the target. It's a real hoot to shoot. Gunshop owner told me today it was worth about $400. Now that's a LOT less than I paid but in ten years I won't care. Anyone have an opinion on this? I know he was lowballing but not too what extent. It does have the frame lock on it. What's the general consensus? (not of the frame lock- of the gun) Does anyone have experience on how they hold up?

Did your dealer actually tell you that is what it was worth?
Or did he tell you that is what he would buy it for?
Those are dramatically different numbers.
If you want to sell it, I am certain that our Forum members would offer you substantially more than your dealer.

327
I had a "until payday" cash crunch so I was trying to borrow money against it. I saw a gun dealer with Buy Sell Trade so I stopped in. I'm sure that was his "buy" price though he did say the fact that it was a Lew Horton actually hurt the price. I was able to borrow what I needed elsewhere so I don't plan to sell it if I can avoid it. The only reason it was at risk was none of my other guns have sufficient value to be of use. It's the single most fun handgun I've ever shot. It's so much fun to shoot it makes my other .357 seem like work (almost). I'm gathering from responses so far that the dealer was mistaken about it's value. That is relief although I'd have had to pay a bit more than I did to really feel cheated.

And thanks for the photo ColtSAA, that is indeed it. Although my grips don't have any grain showing in the handles. I do believe your grips are better looking.

Sorry to tell you that was not a Lew Horton Exclusive offering. It was a short run from the Performance Center, any distributor or dealer could order them.
If/when you are ready to sell, post it in the Forum Classifieds

I enjoy mine 627pc "blood work" (upper left). Though the barrel is a little shorter. I would like to find a big brother but they are a bit pricey.

Colt SAA, I had never heard of Lew Horton before I bought it. The guy I got it from had told me that. He also said it was a run of 500. Does that sound right?

To the best of my knowledge the factory has not yet released how many of product code 170254 were manufactured. Sometimes this information is never known.
Sorry but the only true statement that the seller told you was that the revolver was introduced in 2005.
But be happy, you own one heck of a revovler.

I find this all very funny but I can't feel cheated. The gun is so light and so fast back on target and the trigger pull is so smooth, even, and crisp that I'm glad I bought it regardless. It really is the most fun handgun I've ever shot. And in ten years the price won't matter anyhow. I'm just glad to learn what you told me so I stop sounding so clueless about one of my own revolvers!
