This one has a set from Altamont. It may not apply for you being that it is a square butt.

These are Ahrend's grips that I just got for Christmas. Just got the gun this fall - it is also a 686-4, but with a 4-inch barrel and with 7-rounds. I like the way these grips feel and look...they have lots of sizes, types of wood, etc. You can do a search for Ahrend's grips and find their web site...I just e-mailed back and forth with the maker until I figured out exactly what I wanted. These are a round-to-square conversion (makes it look like a square butt), but I always figured if I got a 3" gun I would try to carry it more and would get the round butt grips. You can't go wrong with the Ahrend's in my opinion. Good luck, B

These are Ahrends on my 686 Mountain Gun. They convert the round butt frame to square grips.

Joe, those are factory stocks. I believe they're commonly referred to as "banana grips", sort of like a combat grip but without the finger grooves. There are also checkered versions of the same grip.

Here is my '04 'Stocking Dealer Exclusive' 5" h-l 686+ - as it came from S&W:

Those are Ahrends square-conversion - with f.g. - roundbutt grips in cocobolo. It also had a HiViz front sight and V-notch rear sight. The deal-maker - for me - was the partial lug. Neat package.

Thanks for all the photos guys. I'm about to switch back to revolver (686+) for my winter carry and was considering S&Ws "Talo" edition, which price is now the same as stock. But after having a bad experience with a G-23 with finger grooves, I started to reconsider. Good to know there are many non-grooved grips out there.

Here are the factory goncalo alves on my nickel 586. I did not know that Hogue has such nice looking wood, thanks to this thread, I might shop for my (new to me) 696 that wears black rubber at the moment. Then there is stag... decision to make.

Great pics and I like this thread.
I bought some Ahrends RB FG for K/L frame from a forum member here and am patiently waiting for them to arrive.
