Default Ported barrels and shot shells

I've been advised not to use shot shells in ported revolvers.
Mind you, I haven't tried it myself, so is there
any experience and/or insight out there one way or the other?

Thanks

I have never tried it, but shotguns are ported regularly. The porting on a shotgun is oval, as compared to trapazoidal though.
I don't see any harm in shooting a shotshell with a ported revolver, but, like anything else, with moderation.
Best Wishes,
Tom

I think the kind of porting has a difference. Shotgun ports are round small holes at an angle with the base of the hole toward the front and leading edge at the rear. The shotgun wad is soft and does accumulate in the ports and must be occasionally cleaned out. Pistol ports are done various ways, and the most common, Magnaporting, has the base of the cut with the leading edge towards the front where it could catch the shot/plastic shot capsule and plug up the port. This "might" cause a restriction in the barrel which could cause "problems".

I think it is better to follow manufacturer recommendations.

What are the manufacturer's recommendations?
