Where to find 1980's original S&W 686 target grips
I picked up my 686-1 back in the 1980's and got bit by the rubber grip fad. I put a set on and gave my target grips to my father to put on his 28. Needless to say with age comes maturity and I would like to put a set of original target grips back on, but dad won't give them up. I have been looking for years, but have not had any luck finding a set anywhere. S&W told me that they sold all of their "old" target grips to one reseller, but could not remember who. Anyone have any ideas where I might be able to find some? Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum. This is the style that came with your gun, usually referred to as having the "speedloader" as opposed to the "football" or extractor cutout:

With careful shopping you can find these for about $30-40. Try the Accessories for sale section to start, or the online auction sites. Hope this is helpful.

Tell Dad that those wood targets from your 686 will not fit his N-frame model 28 properly. As other posters have mentioned, you can find plenty on Ebay, Gunbroker, etc. In nice shape, you should be able to get a pair from $35-75 depending on the grain(color contrast and figure) of the wood.

murphydog,
Thanks for the heads-up. Since the gun is in very nice shape, I am looking for a set of grips that will match. Thanks again.

If you don't grab those offered by ol timer, I've bought nice ones on ebay.
His are very nice though & would be tough to beat condition wise & matching. I'd grab them in a heart-beat.
