Which Dash Do I Want
I am looking for a Model 629 with full underlug, no ILS and with the safety/transfer bar (or whatever S&W calls it) hammer system. Ideally, it would be the 5" barrel. Is this gun available or even been made in the configuration that I want it? Feel free to provide links to ones for sale or PM them to me. NIB would be a dream come true.

I "THINK" the dash number you are looking for is a -5. Im not sure about the barrel length configuration etc, but I think the 5 was no IL with frame mounted firing pin. Im sure someone who knows for sure will be along soon.

Yep, 629-5 Classic is what you're looking for.
Full underlug, no lock, and has the frame-mounted firing pin system.
Here's a look at a few 629-5 Classics (and a Backpacker) for your enjoyment:
6.5" 629-5 Classic
5" 629-5 Classic
3" 629-4 Backpacker
They all shoot great!

Thank you. I may have found one! I emailed the seller just to double check the features are correct.

Thw 629-4 is the best dash number. It is pre lock and pre MIM.

I have a 629 no dash, 8 3/8, which is pinned and recessed, and it is a very fine hand gun-special. I also have 3 other 629's, dash 1's and 2's, with full underlugs and non-fluted cylinders, and they are all equiped with finger groove combats. They are easily the best looking handguns I have, and they shoot like they look. I also have a 629-6 hunter PC, with 7 1/2 barrel that has the weights you can add or take out. I have a Nikon eer scope on it. Out to at least 100 yds, it is good as a rifle, at least. It has the lock, but is an awsome revolver. As you can see, I'm a 629 fan! I hope you find one you like. unless I am wrong, the -5 does not have the lock, but does have the mim parts, and the FMFP.......so the -4 would be what you are wanting, not the -5

I have a 629-4 (4") , 629-3 (6")and a 629-3 (5"). Both have no lock but the -4 is MIM trigger and hammer with firing pin in frame and the -3's are all forged with pin in the hammer.
To my way of thinking you want the -3. Maybe they made some other combinations but that is what I have.
The -4 has the extra metal on the frame but I think the enhanced (stronger) models started in 1989? Maybe the expects can confirm that or correct me?
