Default Red dot front V notch rear sights???

Anyone ever try this configuration for sights on a S&W??? How does it work?? Advantages, disadvantages??? Brownell's has the Hi-Viz front sight and the V ramp rear blade and they are not expensive but I never hear anyone commenting on this particular combo. Is it faster to use, more, or less accurate compared to the standard red ramp front/white outline rear??? Any info/thoughts??? Thanks in advance for any info.

I have a 3" 66 and a 5" 686+ that have the Hi Viz/V noch rear combination. They are RSR specials, I think. Neither has a red element. The 66 is green and the 686+ is sort of International Orange.

I thought the combination might work a little better than the standard post and square noch for my somewhat senior eyes. In practice though, it's just too slow for me. The front sights are great, and I intend to keep them, but the V noch needs to be repalced.

XTrooper started a thread on the C&S fixed rear sight that gave me some ideas for replacement, but it doesn't address this sight combination directly. If you haven't seen it already, it might be worth a look. Question For Night Guard Owners

Thanks for the link and info. I have had a few local guys say that the V notch rear didnt do to well for them either. One guy said that he could not shoot as good of a group off the bench with a rest as he could with a standard square notch. I dont want to run up against the same problem.

I have two handguns with HiVis front sights. One has a v-notch rear, the other a standard square notch. I honestly don't notice the difference. They both work very well.

I have the stocking dealer 5" 686 with that combo. I don't care for it, but that is the way it came. It works better outdoors.I am adapting.

I have fiber optic fronts on most of my guns but prefer the square notch rear with them.

Thanks for the info so far guys. I am thinking I will try the front Hi-Viz and keep the factory square rear.

My fav is the SDM FO front with the square notch black rear on a revolver. Keeps my eye on the front sight where it belongs, and even if the FO is broken out, you still have the front square post.

I have the 5" 686 also with that sight set up but I didn't like the V-notch rear. I took a small rat tail file and made the notch a U shape and for me this is a 100 percent better.
Just my 2 cents worth.
