Default Chest rig

I just picked up a 29-10, been looking for a couple years and during that time I tried to find the perfect holster to carry it in the woods. I think I found it. Anyone know of anything better?

I don't know about "better," but Simply Rugged makes a good one for significantly less money than that Haugen. Combine one of their holsters (usually a Sourdough or Long Hunter for a Model 29) with their Chesty Puller Conversion System. Cost for both is $120-$135. The upside of this setup is you have a good belt holster to use when you don't need the chest rig.

Store ? Holsters, Gun Belts, Ammo Pouches and Accessories ? Simply Rugged Holsters

I like El Paso Saddlery's "Tanker" style for long-barreled handguns.

Better, however, is in the eye and wallet of the beholder.

Not bad, for what you want to use it for. I'd prefer the gun a bit left of the centerline of the body, so when you bring your hand up to draw, it hits the gun in a natural place.

Default Holster

Stoneman, I have tried this holster and It Is the best way to carry a large revolver. I have a box full of different makes and models to carry my large framed revolvers this one gets used all the time-very versatile and comfortable rig- quality is as good as anything out there. I highly recommend this holster if you are looking to carry any of the larger revolvers. Unlike another holster maker that has been getting alot of negative press on this site ( and rightly justified I might add) this company is excellent to deal with- the more popular gun sizes are usually in stock and ship out in a few days. Great company- Great product.
Respectfully,
SM1357

While I've never used Rob's chest rig I've got several of his holsters and they are good stuff. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

Default Chest holster?

If what you want is a "chest holster", the old WW-II holster is what you want. I holds a 1911 and an "N" frame 4 inch revolver. Did I mention, that it goes across your chest and costs about $30.00.

I do have this setup for my 4" Ruger Redhawk and really like it. It's also easy to detach the Chesty Puller straps and attach them to other Sourdoughs I have. Highly recommend Rob's holsters.

I've used this holster a lot starting with a WY moose hunt before it had the extra ammo carrier. I improvised with an elastic type ammo carrier which worked OK. After the trip I sent the guys at Haugen a photo of my make do ad on and asked if they could make one to match the holster. They sent one which I added to the strap as seen in the photo. They asked if they could use the photo on their web page which was fine with me. The rig has been back to WY several times and is carried on most field outings of any kind. The best thing about a chest rig like this is that it works as well in the summer with a t-shirt on as it does in the winter with heavy clothes. Last year I added a chest rig from Diamond D for my 4" 686. Really I like them equally well but for different reasons. The Haugen holster has a strap to attach to your belt to keep the holster from shifting. It doesn't work without a belt available but also doesn't seem to shift around much when wearing heavy clothes. If you choose the Haugen I recommend having the retaining strap left several inches long so you can easily grab it while wearing heavy gloves. The Diamond D holster is just as well made, goes on a little easier but has no way to tie it to your belt. The fit to the revolver is so tight that it could really use that feature as you have to hold the holster with one hand and draw it with the other. I also an extra ammo carrier added to the Dia. D and had the holster shaped high enough around the sight area of the gun so that the sights are better protected. Chest holsters work great most of the time for me but they do get in the way when doing some kinds of chores. Both of these companies were very good to work with and did whatever they said they were going to do. When my 629 isn't in the chest rig it's in a Simply Rugged pancake. Nothing but good to say about the holster and the company.

I had El Paso make a "1942" for my N-frame (27-2, 3.5"), but they can make them for any length bbl. I ordered it lined too.

Love my chest rig from Diamond D. My 66-2 2 1/2" rides in it whenever I'm prowling around the farm.
