Lew Horton .44 Mag
I currently have an opportunity to purchase a,
According to the seller: Special edition .44 mag. Made for Lew Horton. It is a Classic Hunter circa 1987
I have attached a few pic's and was interested in the members thoughts and opinions.
Questions I should ask, Components that (if all original) should be included and of course the ultimate question the value of this firearm.
Thank you all in advance for your time and opinion(s)

When new they could be had for about $400 pretty easily. 5000 of them were made so they're not exactly rare. I think the price is high but value is determined by how badly you want one. I actually got mine at Cabela's for a lot less but no box and it had wood grips on it.

That is a nice .44 Mag. I would buy it for $850.

Thank you all for your input thus far, we've (the seller and I ) have spoken again and he's agreed to $750 at this point.
No box, no original grips and unknown rounds thew the firearm. From the pictures I can see a bit of scoring on the barrel and the hammer looks a bit dis colored. This to me is more of a want than a need. I'd like to see the price drop a bit more, to help it a long lean more toward the need category

The hammer is not discolored. The hammer and the trigger are case colored. They were made like that.

I thought that that front sight was only used on the Silhouette.

I saw one just like that in 6" a few years ago priced at $600, as new in box. You probably would pay a lot more for it today. $750 might not be too bad, as it looks pretty good from the pictures.

I have a Lew Horton 41 Mag Classic Hunter II - it's a fantastic gun, the favorite among my 15 revolvers. I paid about $750 last year (after adjusting for ammo and extras) and it was money well spent. Mine has the rosewood grips and ported barrel.

This 29-3 is the original Classic Hunter.
Congrats, for $750 you got a fair deal. Enjoy shooting it.

It's my understanding that the original 29-3 Classic Hunter like the one shown was a run of 5000 made for Lew Horton. They were all identical and used the 4 position front sight.

Yes, the "Classic Hunter" was equipped with the 4 position front sight. I lettered mine some years ago, and it was shipped July 1988. They don't have to be babied, but did not have the upgraded cylinder location pin. I have shot mine extensively in Metallic Silhouette, and for bowling pin shoots and it performed well. I think $750 is a reasonable price in the condition shown. Curious if it is mag-na-ported, as I have seen several that have been mag-na-ported.

H Richard: as to you quote above. If you could explain. <~~ I have found the answer to this question. I shall inquire with the owner.
Thank you all for you input thus far and I'm do feel as though I have found a new home

Those grips are original to the gun. Mine came with them (I can't stand them, they don't fit my hands). I have replaced them with a wooden set without finger grooves. I bought mine in 1988. Paid $525CDN.

Nag-na-port is a trapezoidal cut or "port" cut into the barrel of the gun about an inch behind the muzzle (one on each side of the sight). If you look closely, you will notice the port on mine. The factory never did this, but have not been able to determine if was done by Lew Horton or a previous owner. Mag-na-porting does help with muzzle flip and perceived recoil.

Here's mine, 29-3 Classic Hunter.
Had it hard chromed - and a few other mods.
Ball bearing detente pictured. 11 degree forcing cone, ported, crowned, green sight insert, action job.
All the mods were done at Mag-Na-Port 20+ years back when I bought it new.
