Default Difference between Mod 57 & 58

I'm entertaining the thought of getting a .41 mag. I thought that meant a model 57 or 657. But now I see there is a mod 58. Am I mistaken? If not, what are the differences? Thanks, Rob.

Fixed sights vs adjustable sights, target hammer and trigger vs smooth, I believe.

The Model 58 is the Model 10 of the .41 Magnum world.

pre lock and cast (MIM) 657s are near impossible to find, the 4" especially. I'd go for a 57, much easier to find.

The model 58 is only a 4", the 57/657 can be found in many other lengths. You can buy a new 58-1.

What, no one even gives notice to the Model 357? Its not one I would recommend as your first .41 Mag, but its a worthy addition.

You will probably be able to find a M57 cheaper than a M58. The M58 is a cult gun. Its why I own one. But they're pricier than equivalent M57s. For an excellent condition gun, you'll pay near a $1000.

I hope you're a reloader. Its about the only way to shoot a .41. Ammo is scarce and expensive. A few years ago I was buying ammo at gun shows. For whatever reason, the cheap way to score both factory ammo and brass is from others who have sold their guns and put up the leftover ammo on their tables. They were charging about half price listed on the stickers on the ammo box. With ammo prices tripling or so, half a box for half of the original price was a steal.

Its the same thing with bullets. Sometimes private vendors have a bunch of left over bullets. They sell them cheap! I bought 300 of them at a show last year, and I had one of my son's along to carry them! Life is good.

Its even cheaper to buy unfired brass and load it than to spring for factory stuff, if you can find it. The .41 is a reloaders caliber. If you already are one, its easy.
