Default NO Price Drop On Revolvers

Just got the word from SW: the price reduction applies only to some autos and rifles, none on revolvers. From David valenze:

"Hello,

There are no plans to reduce pricing on the revolvers. It is only on our semi-auto pistols and rifles.

Regards,

Dave"

No big loss, it seems like it's a smoke and mirrors game with the "price drop" anyway, as in they will lower the "MSRP" for the M&P pistol and rifle, which don't mean squat to real world prices anyway. Any dealer who adheres to the MSRP probably wouldn't sell a single firearm.

Distributor prices on the J frames have dropped about $50 in the last week.

I was planning to buy a 627 and I was hoping to use the "price drop" thing to arm twist the guy at the gun shop to lower the price.

ME: "But, if I just wait a little, I'll get a lower price."

Can't do it now.

Funny... adheres to the MSRP? I stopped by Reed's range today to check their price on the 627-5 (five inch barrel). That's the one that has a list retail price of $1249. Reed's had decent prices, once upon a time.

So I ask the guy at Reeds and he says:

"Yeah, the price is $1299."

ME: "That can't be right. The list price is only $1249." I show him the page from the SW website I printed out showing the gun, specs and list price of $1249.

HIM: "Well, that's the price."

Yeah? Well, that's the door and this is my skinny backside you see as I walk through it.

That's the correct answer.

It also made me chuckle. Thanks!

I just checked the listed MSRP on their website today and several J frames, Pro series and the M57 are less.

Their MSRP prices decreased the first part of this month. Simply compare their 2010 Catalog, shipped in May, to their current prices on the S&W site. Even my long awaited 3" 63, bought the day before Thanksgiving, now has a MSRP $100 less than when I bought it!

Yea, whether I buy from them or not.. Bud's has always been the standard that I use when purchasing a firearm and deciding on whether I got a good deal.

Got my 642 yesterday (no lock) for ~$380. With the rebate, I'm not going to complain.

My pusher told me today that the lowered MSRP has not carried over to dealer's cost. The Al .38's have gone down - but the $50 rebate is about to expire there, too. My 3" 63 is back in stock there - $650 - as are a PC627 & PC629 UDR - $900. The MSRP has always been a rather nebulous quantity anyway.

Just to reiterate.. it seems like price has actually gone up. Checked Bud's earlier this week and the price of some of the S&W revolvers have actually gone up.

Charging more and giving less has been S&W SOP for ten years.

Given the number of members here who are OK with that, why should they lower their prices? Regards 18DAI.

My dealer says the bodyguard price was dropped $84 to his dist. One problem, the dist has 600 in stock at the old price. Ouch!
