Talking Bang!!! Bang!!! This Thang will Shoot!!!

Recently bought a S&W 21-4 .44 Special Thunder Ranch revolver NIB. Yesterday I was out visiting church members. On the seat of the car was my new revolver and a single box (that's all I had) of .44 Special Winchester Cowboy loads. Since they were working in the fields, I could not do much shooting, but I did get to fire a couple of cylinder loads. At 20 yards I could keep everything inside 4 inches shooting off-hand. I was shooting at a worn-out harrow blade using the axle hole for a aiming mark. One shot didn't "ring," so I thought I'd missed. Later found it had gone through the axle hole and hit the truck hub against which the harrow blade was leaning. Now... I've got a little bit of a "problem." When I've fired all these Winchester loads, I'll have 50 pieces of brass. That simply in not enough for any sort of a serious loading program! I need brass! I need lots and lots of brass. I'll round up some nice 240 gr. hard-cast lead bullets and some primers. I've got plenty of Unique and Read Dot for powder. But brass... I got to find brass! So I had an idea... I have .45 ACP brass running out of my ears, all of it once fired in my S&W 625 revolver. There's probably someone out there that would be willing to trade .44 Special brass for .45 ACP brass. We could figure out a fair rate of exchange, etc. It shouldn't be to terribly hard. But, if I trade .45 ACP brass for .44 Special brass, do you think my 625 will get upset at my 21? Seriously! They usually sit in the same dresser drawer, unless they are lying on the seat of the car while I make visits and occasional side trips to go shooting. They seem to get along pretty good. I took the 625 shooting while I was at Winter Camp Meeting. But I only took the 21 with me yesterday. The 18 and 28 both get along well with the 21... maybe it's because their all blued. But then, I'm not thinking of trading off any of the brass they might need. However, the 625... I don't know! Can anyone think of a better way for me to get .44 Special brass? The 21 is lying on the bed next to me while I type this. The 625 is sulking in the dresser drawer. What to do? What to do? Decisions! Decisions! Decisions! (The preceding thread is the result of my deep desire to keep my family happy. I will now wipe all four of them down with some CLP and a warm fuzzy cotton cloth. Maybe that will help. Any suggestions about the trading, etc. will be appreciated).

Around here (Louisiana) a lot of the more serious revolver and pistol shooters all use starline brass. And thanks to your post I have to order a bag of 500 44 specials. Just about all the comments regarding starline brass is overwhemly good. It took me almost 5 years scrounging brass buckets to get about 200 winchester and federal 44 special cases. Methinks its a caliber that is grossly underestimated. Just a good cartridge that can deliver great accuracy. I have a 624 6.5 bbl 44 special. And as soon as I get the money together I'm changing out the front sight to a gold bead. I find it difficult to use the issued black front sight. Old age and cataracts don't mix. Frank

I have it's cousin which I just bought. I am very satisfied with mine. The lock doesn't bother me and they are nice revolvers. I just bought some 44 spl. brass from Midway. I got mine from BudsGunShop on closeout. Not a Thunder ranch model.
Shown here with it's brother 22-4 on top.

I bought a 21-4 4" nickel NIB because it felt so good, however I don't reload 44spl. I considered trading to my preferred 45 cal however I have had no takers. Considering buying brass and dies and shooting it.

I ordered a caliber conversion for my 550B.
I will start loading .44 spc when everything arrives. I have a couple hundred pcs. of brass ready to tumble.

I put Miculek grips on mine and like them. I use them on my competition revolvers so I am comfortable with them.
