Model 14-6 4 inch full lug
I picked up a model 14-6 4" barrel. It has the angled thumb latch and a recessed crown on the barrel.
Is this a "Roper gun"? Serial prefix BET.
Anyone know how many were made? I was told 100. Thanks! Regards 18DAI.

Looking in the SCSW it refers to a special edition accurized by the PC in 1995 for the Police Nationals for combat shooting competitions designed by master gunsmith Jim Rae. Says fewer than 100 uints with a full lug barrel, precision crowned muzzle custom duty action and polished forcing cone. Product code 170154. Does not give serial prefix.

Thanks bamabiker!
I've confirmed it is indeed a 14-6 tuned by the Performance Center for police PPC competition. It was distributed by Ropers Supply in Picayune Missisippi. Numbers made vary from 12 to 125, depending on who you ask.
Sweet sixgun. Thanks again! Regards 18DAI.

I got reliable info that Mr Jim Rae at the Performance center made these 4" 14-6 revolvers.
I got an Email response from him yesterday stating "...between 125 and 135 made.."
Well worth trading the 3" 64-3 I think. This 4" 14-6 is a keeper! Regards 18DAI.

I'll bet that is really a nice one. Sounds like an ideal .38 Special for target shooting. I'm envious. Congratulations!

I happened to be in the right place when those were built. My contact in the PC had some overrun barrels. I acquired a 1978 6" K-38 and had it rebarreled at the factoty with one of those barrels. It is nice. Then I had got a 2" m15 and did the same thing with it. One of my LE buddies did it to his M14 6". I have a matching 4" full lug K-32 Magnum and a K-22 M17. Bob!

The ones we were given were prefix BNW---- they were as you described all were squarebutts had smooth triggers with triggerstops and target hammers ,the Combat Fingergroove wooden grips, tall I think 330 patridge front sight, tall plain rears, they had another number on crane/yoke like 008 or 010. They came in plain brn cardboard boxes,I dont remember anything on them , Ive seen some roundbut ones over the years and some with recessed cylinders, We were told that Roper had put some of them together,I dont know if thats true, If Jim said the P/C put 125-135 together they may have had to use whatever frame /cylinders they had at the end, I would like to have a R/B one. They shoot like a house on fire, The barrels do lead up shooting 158 SWC and their accuracy starts to suffer, but once you clean the barrel its right back, 1" or better at 25yds. My gun has won 2 Natl Championships. Most guys would never get rid of theirs, you are REALLY lucky to find one ESPECIALLY for that swap. Collectors are always looking for one. Congrats it will become one of your favorite guns.Bob Add: the P/C also made afterwards afew(dont know how many) with 2 3/4" barrels for the off duty match.I ve been searching for one for years with no luck,by the time I heard about them they were gone ,not even any barrels left.I would love to find one someday.

CALREB my serial prefix is BET. There is the number "170" stamped in the yoke.
Did you win yours in the 1995 Championship shoot?
YES, I was lucky!! He had it sitting in his case, in plain sight, at a crowded gunshow, marked $495. I never thought I'd see one, let alone own one. Good thing for me that the majority of shooters ignore revolvers and are looking for tupperware.
My friend, a former Sheriffs department instructor and pistol team captain, knew what it was too. He whispered he would loan me the money to get it - till the fella said he'd swap me even! Then he told me to go buy a lottery ticket.
14-6 with a 2 3/4 barrel!! Now I have another holy grail to search for. I've never seen one or heard of it till now.
I'll be shooting it this weekend, hopefully. I'll let y'all know how it shoots. Thanks again! Regards 18DAI.

Hi.
A Finnish Company called Riistamaa ( Eräliike Riistamaa) is selling a used S&W 14-6 with Tasco Propoint and an aluminium case for 95,00 €.
I´m not sure if they trade to USA.
