Where can one find replacement rear sight blades for Smith revolvers? I want to get one a little lower if possible.

Default Rear sight blade replacement

I don't know how much they are now but...
You will need to spend an extra $10 or more for the screw that anchores the blade.

Actually, S&W sells the blade (in different heights and with or without white outline) and the screw for $10.56 plus shipping. They also sell the tools for changing the sight blade.

Call S&W or Brownell's or Midway.
When you take it apart, there is a VERY smaller plunger and spring in the side of the head of the windage screw. If you're not careful and don't have a new set to install you'll spend a lot of time looking for the smallest parts you've ever lost.

Consider yourself warned here! Made that mistake myself recently and found both the spring and plunger in under 2 minutes - Behold the miracle - You will not be so lucky. Some suggest doing this in a large clear plastic bag. Sounds like good advice.

Photo below of the parts. Please note the bent office staple next to the plunger and spring - tiny does not begin to say how small these are.

Does anyone have blade kits higher than .160" for sale? S&W used to offer them all the way up to .222".

Thanks for any help.

I think they used to be available up at least .213" but I don't see 'em any more. May I ask why you need one that high? Just curious.

I almost always have to get a lower rear blade since my front sights are nearly always too short (low) for the way I shoot.

Apparently I'm the opposite of you. If it's not luck of the draw buying guns, maybe either you're eyeballs or mine were installed crooked by the manufacturer.

Seperate from individual technique, eyesight, etc., I have observed that longer barrels generally require higher blades. I had to raise the rear sight for each increase in barrel length in my .22 LR Dan Wesson 4 barrel kit. The tallest S&W blades were for the model 29 10 5/8" silhouette guns. Also, I want my guns sighted in with most of the elevation adjustment still availabe for longer range.
