That is a nickel plated, 8 shot, Registered Magnum.

These were offered exclusively by Lew Horton. 4 variations of the 8 shot Registered Magnum were produced.

In 2006 the first of the 8 shot Registered Magnums went into production. The initial offerings were a 3 1/2" in blue steel and a 5" in blued steel. Production of each was 350 pieces.

In 2007 The second set of the 8 shot Registered Magnums went into production. These offerings were a 3 1/2" in nickel plated steel and a 5" in nickel plated steel. Production of each was 250 pieces.

The photo below contains one of each variation of 8 shot, 357 magnum
revolver that S&W has produced to date. All six revolvers in this set are the same number.

The additional 2 variations offered were a 4" blued steel and a 6 1/2" blued steel that went into production in 2000. 100 of each of these variations was produced. These two were exclusive offerings from Bangers.

All of these revolvers were produced by the S&W Performance Center. Fit and finish is superb. The barrels are match grade and accuracy is simply outstanding. All of the revolver variations have their cylinders cut for moon clips. Each revolver comes with several moon clips and was shipped in a aluminum Performance Center case. Additionally the 4 Registered Magnum versions came with the registration certificates.

These are among my very favorite S&W wheel guns.

What did they do to make the 8 shot cylinder fit into the frame?

It's an N frame and the larger diameter of the cylinder allows 8 rounds in a 357 Magnum. Currently all of the model 627 use an 8 round cylinder.

A local range/gun shop has a new blued 3 1/2 inch RM in the showcase for 1400 bucks and it's quite tempting. However, the price is a bit too rich for me and I keep hoping that Lew Horton will order a similar batch of the 627 with the RM features and a 3 1/2 inch barrel.

They moved the cartridges closer together.

The N-frame cylinder is pretty big to start.

S&W has manufactured and delivered many tens of thousands of 8 shot 357 Magnum N-frame since their introduction 14 years ago in 1997. Many variations have been produced in stainless steel, carbon steel and even scandium alloy. Here are a few more examples for you.

You must be talking about Double Action. I was in there last week and it was tagged at $1,289 - still too high in my opinion.

They must have dropped the price a bit. I was in there about 3 weeks ago and it was priced in the high 1300 dollar range. If they drop it down to under 1100 bucks I'll be all over it. Hopefully, a finger that I did a bit of grinding on will have healed enough by next weekend to allow me to resume shooting, if so I'll see if they are willing to dicker on it. With my past history, Lew Horton wil probably announce a run of 627 RM's a week after purchasing it.
