Only in pictures from the SHOT show 2 (or was it 3?) years ago!

(yes, I want one too!)

S&W said they should ship in the Summer of 2010 - it seems they missed that goal.

Has there been any word yet on if they are going to make a plain jane all stainless version on the Model 60 frame? Like how the SP101 is set up with all stainless but with good adjustable sights. I’m not one for the Pro version’s porting and space age designed barrel.

I purchased a 632-2 last week for $600.oo including sales tax.It is a j frame round Butt, six shots matte black stainlees steel.Shot next day and found it to have medium recoil an I think lousy trigger. This revolver reviewed in current NRA Rifleman magazine.I do like the 632-2 it fits my medium sized hands good. Try it I think you will like it.

Yeah, what I'd like is my new 3" 63 - in .327 Mag - or even my 3" 60 Pro in .327 Mag. The HiViz front sight, a la the3" 63, is a better deal for me, too. I waited from early last year to Thanksgiving for that 3" 63... I thought it was slow in 'coming out'. I guess it will eventually get here.

I bet it will look and feel better - my 3" 63 sure did - with a set of 60 Pro grips - see it and my 60 Pro:

I never thought I'd find true happiness in anything smaller than a 4" N-frame... oops!

Thanks Super38!

The one time I called, which was back in October I think, it wasn't even on their Production Schedule.

When did you call Super38? I called a week or so ago and they said they would ship this month. It would not surprise me if they did push it back again...and again...and again.

I'd be curious to know the answer to that question myself, even though I've come to the conclusion that it'll be here when it gets here.

For months I had been checking a Wholesalers web-site a few times a week to see if they had it and now I'm kind of relying on receiving an email notification when they become available.

If you go to the page showing the 632 (new version) on Smith & Wesson's web-site you can click on a link to a Wholesaler, at least that's what I think they are, and request to be notified when they get them. That's about where I am, even though I do check that other Wholesaler's site from time to time, out of habit more than anything else.....

I will give my Dealer credit. When I put money down on one last April he looked me right in the eye and said "This will be a tough one to get." When I talked to him last August he also said that he was going to get as many as he could when they came in, adding this might be one that they'll offer for a limited time then discontinue it, which is fine by me.

I called S&W customer service about 2 weeks ago. Production is scheduled to start SOMETIME in May, but he couldn't give me an exact date.

Ellett Bros. shows it in their catalog, but when my dealer called he was told that it had been deleted and was not in the current catalog, which we were looking at. No explanation.

I'm still waiting. I'm gonna give 'em another call tomorrow. This is the first revolver I've been excited about in a loooong time.

Maybe we should start a call in campaign.

I'm right there with ya on all counts. I love the look of the gun and, though it has its detractors, I'm real interested in the caliber with the extra round. That was my 3rd call to them in the last year. Let us know what they say. Be interesting if it is something different yet again. I have a sneaky suspicion that there are as many answers as there are people that answer their phone.

As I've said before, the wait for my 3" 63 was definitely worth it. Hopefully, this will be as well.

Did they say which May they would be ready? Are they aware of the Mayan calendar?

Sorry!

Accusport, Ron Shirk, Bill Hick, Jerrys Sport Center, Lipseys, will be getting them around May. (No guarantee). I also asked to speak with someone about a k-frame in 327 as well, no one answered upstairs and was told to email [email protected] for the suggestion.

I typed this up.
Hello Quality Assurance,

I would like to correspond with someone about the possibility of you producing a k-frame revolver in .327 federal. I think the market would support it. I own several S&W J and K frame revolvers, all in 32 H&R magnum. I do not own a 38/357 revolver, nor will I. I am frustrated because I am reduced to buying a Ruger GP100 if I want a large double action revolver, because S&W does not make one.
Please respond with your thoughts or plans.
Thank you

Maybe poking at windmills but dog gone it, the Ruger is built like a tank (and weighs like one).

I'd buy a K or even L frame .327 S&W in a split second if it had a 7 or 8 round capacity. If they made it so it only held 6 I'd just stick with the J frame 632's.

According to Jeff, "about all of the distributors have orders in." But he could not give me anything about a production date.

As for the K frame .327 said that he had not heard anything about one, but that sort of thing was usually kept under wraps until just before release.

As for me, I'll hold off on the K frame. The .38 seems to be a perfect caliber for that frame. I'm thinking that the .327 will be the same in the J frame.

It looks like I may end up with the 3'' version. I'm about tired of waiting.

Page 52 in the 2010 catalog - that's the only place it exists! That reminds me - anyone seen a 2011 catalog? I wonder if it's even in there? Maybe it's a dream... I'll try to call them a bit later.

I just talked to CS @ S&W... production is scheduled for the middle of August... I guess he meant this August?? I also asked for a 2011 catalog - he said it'd be a few weeks on that. I wonder if the 632 made that catalog, too?

Well, I just bought a stainless (color) 632 Pro from one of my local dealers for $399.99. Couldn't pass the deal up. They still have a few left in stock at that price as well. (Gat Guns, Dundee, IL)

This is not vaporware and was just what the doctor ordered!

I'll be picking it up today (have to put up with Illinois' paranoia). Where's a good source for "reasonably" priced ammo, or is that vaporware as well?

Another thanks for the head's up. After reading the news (here) I picked up the phone and called the shop where I've had money down on one since early last year.

My Dealer checked his wholesalers on-line while we were on the phone & the first three he tried didn't show any in stock. One of these three is even located in MA and he figured that because they were in the same state as S&W that they would surely have them. Nope.....

He found them on the fourth try so they are indeed out there and it looks like my long wait may soon be over......

I don't know why I say, my long wait, since this will be one of my wife's guns.

Finally, after having $$ down on one for 16 months my wait, thanks in part to SEVN3, is now over.

Now that I have a little more time I can add, for the record, that the frame is stamped 632-2.

It was an interesting day. Yesterday I planned for a noon meet at a local Gun Shop down in Fenton (for you Michiganders) to sell a gun that I had listed on-line, the same shop that I had this 632 ordered from. The odds were slim that I would recieve "the call" at 10:30 this a.m. that the 632 had arrived, but that's exactly what happened.

After making my sale I went in and when looking over the 632 that they initially brought out I noticed that the barrel was noticably canted to the left so I asked to see the one that they had right there in the case. That one looked good so I asked if I could have the display gun, which seemed to put the clerk off some. At first I thought it was just because he had to go find the other box and take the tag off the display gun, but now I'm not so sure. While in the back room I heard him tell another clerk, "He wants the good one and is going to stick us with the bad one."

I held my piece and when all the paperwork was done & I was ready to leave I apologized for sticking them with the "bad one." He made some others comments that just reinforced the conclusion I had already made. I won't be going back there again.......

With that said, the 632-2 that I brought home today has, bar-none, the best J-Frame, "Out of the box" trigger I have ever felt. Crown & finish are excellent so, knock on wood, it looks like I have a winner on my hands. Well, my wife does.....

Since there has been a few threads lately dealing with S&W boxes (cardboard or plastic) I will also add that this one came in the blue plastic type.

Thanks for the quick review. I too have been looking for this gun since I saw it in the catalog a year ago. SEVN's link is to Buds where I had this gun on my wishlist. Well they emailed me few days ago that it was availabe and I bought it and Im waiting to receive it. I must have bought the only one they had because after I put in in my shopping cart I dont see anymore available. Im glad I didnt delay, these guns seem pretty scarce. Im hoping mine is a "good one" as well. I will try and post pics and review when I get the gun

Took the 632-2 out to the back-yard range today and we put it through it paces, it passed with flying colors!

Good accuracy & no extraction issues even when firing the .327's after many .32 S&W Longs had been fired. Wish I could say the same about our 632 Carry Comp (3" compensated bbl). Today it was still giving me serious extraction issues with the .327 rounds and if I can't work through them soon I'll be contacting customer service. I also had extraction issues with the Ruger SP101 with the .327 rounds and that one had to go back to Ruger who replaced the cylinder to fix the issue. I got a couple of nice gouges on my hand today from the Carry Comp when I had to pound the heck out of the extractor rod to eject the spent casings, but only on the .327's, the .32's come out easily so some of the problem might be due to shorter "fouling ring" issues, this, in spite of the fact that I always use a Lewis Lead Remover after every range session.

As mentioned, the new 632-2 (2") had no issues whatsoever and so far is turning out to be the best new S&W I've purchased in a long time. It's about time, a number of our newer Smith's have had something goin' on but I'm still keepin' the faith and today was rewarded hansomely for doing so........

Thanks for that range report. Does the three dots help with the shooting?

Because the white dots are in black housings, albiet small, I thought so. That little bit of contrast (please see pic in post #39) seemed to make a difference to me. The actual color of all three dots when viewed at night is green, which is not the norm for me. I prefer to have the front dot a different color than the back two so, eventually I may look into getting the front sight swapped out for a different color, if that's an option.

I will say this, the gun worked well for me right from the start. I set-up one of the target stands with the 10 numbered dots and had my son call out a number, or series of numbers and even though the gun was new to me I was able to do quite well on that drill point shooting (one-handed). Heck, I even impressed myself, but then again I've never had the problem with short barrel J-Frames that others seem to have. For some reason the short barrel J & I have always got along.......

Im still in a holding pattern because Im doing a trade w/ Buds to off set the cost of the new gun. Buds is waiting for my gun to appraise it and verify then I will send them a check for the difference. Its gonna take longer this way, but it works for me. I will let u all know when I receive the gun, BTW I noticed a new offering from Buffalo Bore in both 327 and 32 h&r, anyone shoot these loads yet?

Peyton, I don't think you'll be dissapointed, any quailty issues you might have on a specific handgun aside. Guns come & go around here all the time but this one is not only staying, it will be one that will be used everyday.

If it wasn't for the fact that my primary carry guns, a 2.5" 66-2 & 36-2, both worked by Teddy Jacobson, weren't so nice I would be getting another one of these 632-2's for myself. I have a feeling that, for awhile at least, every time I see my wife with this new 632 I'll be feeling some serious "gun envy."

S&W got this one right, size, weight & caliber (6 shot J) all come together in a nice little package.

If the new 632 came blued, I'd probably have one by now...

How is the recoil on that? I've only shot 327 in a SP-101 and I was still surprised at the pop it had, even though I had fully expected it. Would you say it is more in the "carry a lot, shoot very little" category or is it more comfortable than that?

Also, were those the stock grips? I've only seen it pictured with the shorter grips...

Ah SEVN3, thanks for the heads up that this was available!
I had given up checking the wholesalers web-site for availablity months ago.....

Those are the stock grips, which are the same, "J Synthetic Full Size" (sku 413040000) as those that came on my 632 Carry Comp.

Because recoil is somewhat subjective I'll base most of my opinion on what a fairly new handgun shooter, our son's friend, did yesterday when over here. He was one-handed point shooting (a method new to him) using his own 9mm Sigma, my son's Glock 36 & 2.5" 686 with .38 Spl's, as well as the two 632's (-2 & Carry Comp) even with the .327 Fed Mag. rounds.

The first time he tried the 686 with .357 Mag using the same one handed method he cooked off the first round, stopped, turned and looked at us and said, "Wow, I think I'll use two hands for this one." For the record, I recommended he use two hands before firing the first round but told him that since he was loaded with target .357's he might get away with using only one hand.

Based on this I would say it's a shooter, especially with the stock grips. Yesterday, while on the range I had the small, slim style Crimson Trace Grips on it because that's what it will be carried with.....

Since you have fired the SP101, the 632-2 is probably close to, or maybe a little more manageable than the SP101 if using stock grips on both guns. I haven't fired my SP101 in .327 with the stock grips since 2008, which is when I put Crimson Trace Grips on that gun. The CT's now on my SP101 are a larger, rubber overmold style so are a little more shooter friendly than the shorter, stock SP101 grips and give a good, firm hand hold similar to the stock Grips that came on both 632's........

If shootability is your goal then S&W chose the right grips for the 632's. The "J Synthetic Full Size" Grips allow for a full, firm, hand hold and provide plenty of rubber over the back-strap to help soak up the recoil. I love them for shooting but find them a bit too long for easy concealed carry........

In an effort to provide a little more info. before this thread scrolls off into the archives here is the 632-2 wearing it's carry grips & some of the holsters my wife will be using with it.

With Crimson Trace LG-405 P20 Grips.
The P20 designates Chestnut (colored) Grip Panels on regular LG-405's, which have black panels.

Below in Mernickle Cross-Draw Holster........

This next photo shows it in a Mika (round cut) Pocket Holster with a Mika square cut PH next to it for holster comparison purposes.

This last photo shows it with the popular 642 Airweight.
As a point of reference the Grips are the same size so that may help in overcoming the fact that the 632 is closer to the camera than the 642.

It's time to load this puppy up and perform the "official hand-off ceremony" with my wife being on the receiving end.......

Edited to add: The "ceremony" is now over and while loading up the 632 I thought that there may be some who are not familiar with the different rounds it's capable of firing so I put some together real quick.

From left to right:
.32 S&W LRN (Lead Round Nose), .32 S&W Long LRN,
.32 H&R Magnum JHP (jacketed hollow point) & .327 Federal Magnum JHP.

That's all Folks!
