Default Odd Chief's Special?

Hey, new guy here...

Sorry, no pics (yet) but I recently ran across a Model 36 with the following...

3-inch full lug barrel, adjustable rear sights, the finish appeared more of a matte black than actual bluing, Hogue monogrip (owner told me those came with it). Condition is excellent (or better).

Is this a rare variation? The current owner told me her husband (now deceased) purchased it around 1990-91.

Any info, especially a fair price (for us both) would be appreciated. Thanks!

It's probably pretty rare. The Catalog says the Target version of the M36-6 was made in 1989.
No idea what it is worth, but I'm sure it's worth more than a standard model.

As I understand it, there were 615 made, so they're fairly rare. One was listed on Gunbroker for the longest time for $700 or $800, but its gone now and I didn't catch if it sold or not. I've never seen another for sale.

These are extremely nice J-frames. They shoot more like a K-frame. Very nice balance with the 3" barrel and full underlug. Same configuration as the stainless steel Model 60-4. I'd put the value at $500 - $600.

Any target J frame will be worth more than a standard. The early J frame targets from the 1950's bring some pretty good $$. This being "modern era" will still bring a couple hundred more than a 3" 36 from same time frame as a used gun. Those $700 sales from the above post pretty much bear that out.
I didn't realize they made those. Learn something new everyday! Nice gun.
