Default 29 50th Anniversary

I was able to score a model 29 50th anniversary with the presentation box and the shipping box with all the papers and such...it's unfired. I paid a very LOW price for this gun and would like advice if I should sell it or just hang on to it with possibility it may increase in value. And how long doese it take for a gun like this to appreciate in value?

Commeratives will only appreciate as long as they are unfired, and with all factory issued boxes, papers, tools, etc. For some reason, a lot of commeratives have little value above the same model without the special engravings. To realize a profit from your purchase price soon, you would have had to have purchased it for about 30% to 40% below current market value. Once you figure in selling costs and cost of money, it may take several years for appreciation to make it worthwhile to resell.

Thanks for the info...
I picked this up for $500 'cause the guy needed some cash (no it's not hot).
I'm really torn what to do with this gun as I know it's a safe queen and shouldn't be fired to retain its value...but yet I would like to have a "shootin" gun.
I'm also thinking that if I hang on to it and pass it down to my son in 20-30 years (if this world is still around) he could probably turn it into some serious cash.
I really don't know what to do with it....
Any suggestions?

Wally, at $500 I think you got the gun for a good price, but I don't think you stole it. You said you wanted a "shootin" gun...I think you already have one. As H Richard said, you will have to wait quite some time before you make much of a profit on that piece, and I doubt if your son or anyone else will ever trade it for "serious cash". So here's my suggestion, and its exactly what I would do if it were mine: shoot the heck out of it. Then thirty years from now your son might have a gun that you and he shared and enjoyed shooting for years and is priceless to him, rather then valuable. And if you want a shooter but not the big .44, trade it to someone for the right caliber. Good luck with your choice either way, and congrats on aquiring a nice S&W.
