Default Need info on this S&W 629-6

Anyone have any info/experience with the .44 MAG Deer Hunter model 629-6 serial # CJV5 --- ? It has a 6.5 inch ported barrel, Factory wood grips, factory blue case, unopened test fire cartridge envelope, unopened master lock gun lock, 2 mechanism lock keys, all paperwork and manuals. Is it a limited edition? What was its original cost? What years produced? How many produced? What is the frame designation? It's in excellent condition with less than 12 rounds through it. Owner deceased and son considering selling it to me. Whats it worth? Thanks in advance for any comments/replys.

Anybody have any info on this? Have been searching the internet along with S&W website to no avail. Did find out gun was purchased new about 2 1/2 yrs ago from Cabelos and it was initially factory test fired on 3/23/06 so its a late 2005 or early 2006 vintage. Any help or info deeply appreciated. Thanks!

Probably a special run, maybe for a major distributor? Maybe one of their special runs for magna-port since that don't look like factory Smith porting. Looks like a 629 classic with wood grips. Pretty gun. Should be a good shooter....but would probably benefit from rubber grips if really used for deer.

I found out it was bought at Cabella's. The tag on the blue plastic box does say special order. I'm fairly certain the gun was bought new just as it appears. Yes, it does look like the classic except for the grips and the etchings.

With the advent of laser engraving, it is very easy to make special runs. If bought new at Cabella's, it was probably made up for them.
All the labels on the boxes for YEARS now have had a "Spec Order" number, so I don't believe it stands for "Special Order". Perhaps it does and is just a marketing ploy- I don't know.

You MIGHT get some data by calling S&W customer service. If you do, please ASK what "Spec Order" stands for.

Handejector thanks for the reply. I actually corresponded on another board with a guy that owns one just like this one. I may end up calling S&W customer service as you suggested. If I do, I will post what they have to say.
