Just bought a 340PD
I went to my favorite LGS and they had a 340PD for sale. And I bought it.
It's an early model with SCAxxxx serial number, has a lock, dates to around 2001-2002.
It's black with a grey cylinder.
The cylinder showed no sign of erosion,
Turns out I ended up with a spare Titanium cylinder a while back, so now I have a gun to go with it.
I figure it will be a nice carry gun, and most likely I'll carry it with Buffalo Bore 38 Special ammo.
What ammo do you guys use in it? Anyone carry it primarily with 357 Magnum loads?

I love mine. I carry with Speer 135gr .357 short barrel gold dots. Controllable, and a very light firearm. I pocket carry in a Galco horsehide holster....the whole package, loaded and holstered is slightly less than 16 ounces.
Best Regards, Les

Mine is loaded with Winchester .357 Silvertips. Whatever you choose, be sure you do a little bullet-pull testing. If you’re a bit recoil shy, you’ll like magnum loads with lighter bullet weights a lot better. Let us know what you think of your gun after you’ve fired it a bit.

I run Speer 135 grain .38 Special +P Gold Dots in mine and carry an extra Safariland speed-loader. When I first got it I tried some .357 Magnum cartridges. Recoil was heavy despite oversize aftermarket grips. During the summer months, mine rides in the right pocket of my short pants in a Pocket Concealment Systems holster.
Find out what works for you but keep in mind that bullet placement is important.

Just started carrying one myself. For the time being I use an Uncle Mike’s pocket holster. I carry 158 swc 38sp+p loads. I tried one cylinder of .357 magnums, it’s doable but not fun. It’s a great carry and conversation piece.

My usual carry ammo is Buffalo Bore LSWCHP158 gr. .38 Spec. +P. However, I usually carry one belt pouch with GDHP 135 gr. Short Barrel JHP .357 Magnum, along with two more speed loaders or speed strips with the Buffalo Bore load.

The Buffalo bore is no fun but I get respectable accuracy and great terminal performance from a easy carrying package.

It is an easy gun to carry. 38 special is nothing to sneeze at, but I usually carry 357.

I carry mine everywhere. They are hard to beat. I have a nice leather holster, but picked up a cheap Uncle Mikes and it is the most comfortable when carrying IWB.

I have the 360PD, with black SS cylinder and exposed full hammer. I shoot Win PDX1 125gr and Rem Golden Saber 125gr and Speer Gold Dot 135 in +P and 357. The 357 loads are somewhat reduced, so they are supposed to be around 1200 FPS or so, not the full 1400 fps, so they are much easier to handle. I have the Crimson Trace 3 finger Green laser grips on mine and I can easily shoot it 1 handed (even support hand 1 handed) with those carry loads.

What a cool thread! Some very "sabe hombres" posting here. Still haven't found time to work up a factory load for my 340 PDs, so I rely on my M&P 340s and the 110gr .357 JHPs that are taboo in the PD model. Not a bad back-up in and of itself.

I am a fan of the 340PD as well, I have mine loaded with Hornady Critical Defense .38 +P with the FTX (red flex tip) bullet. This round is made for short-barrel revolvers and works well in my gun; very accurate and plenty of power if I do my part. It's a breeze (well, almost) shooting 148 gr wadcutters at the range. I carry AIWB in a Sticky Holster.

My 340pd says use 120 gr or higher ammo.
Isn't CD 38+P only 110 gr?

As I recall, the warning regarding bullet weight is referring to the .357 magnum only. I don't believe it refers to .38 Spec. Does anybody else know for certain?
