I magnaported a 4" 629, and wish I'd saved the considerable expense of not only the work, but also the exorbitant cost of FedEx shipping, which costs nearly as much as the work. I can't perceive any appreciable decrease in felt recoil --- it's still fearsome --- and, by shooting a stock twin of the gun, I can visually observe some small reduction in muzzle flip, but not enough to warrant the expense, or significantly improve recoil recovery time.

The 340 has a two piece barrel if I recall (my 340sc does)...and I would not imagine that the hot gasses passing over the aluminum alloy would be at all good for it...

I have owned one short-barrel revolver with ports and fired a few more. I will never go to the expense or trouble ever again. I will never own another. If you think there is a fire-ball out the end of a stock short-barrel when firing, y'all should see the fire-ball produced by the ports out the top of the barrel of a ported revolver. Try it at a night-fire at close-arms with a cap on. It'll blow the cap right off yer head. It did mine. Never again.......

Don't have much use for flash and noise producers. Alloy frame guns are supposed to have greater recoil. Porting will not help that much. Makes more sense on a 6 " magnum where the lever length can improve control.

I agree with the above posts about not for short BBL light guns, but, I think it makes my 6” 25 shoot easier so faster for bowling pin competitions.
The full power 45 is not a kicker but the ports help and the noise is not a factor. It would be fun to try it with a 44!

Porting is more to control muzzle flip than it is to reduce felt recoil. I had a used Magnaported model 28, 4" bbl, and whenever I shot it I was pelted in the face with powder/lead particles. Huge fireball in the dark. It was also much louder than normal. I didn't think it worked worth a darn and I found a replacement 3 1/2" bbl off a model 27 and screwed that on.
