Default Got my 686 back from service today

I just got my 4" no dash 686 back from S&W today. Had them do the recall mod, add a pinned front sight to replace the fixed orange ramp, replace the cylinder, and correct some excessive end shake and BC gap. I am very, very pleased with the work for the price they charged and it only took five weeks. When looking over the new cylinder I noticed that the original ejector was replaced with one that has two straight legs and four that sort of curve into the charge holes of the cylinder. There are no locator pins in this ejector either. When did the ejector design change?

On a sour note they sent me back the gun with a set of hacked up Pachmeyr combat grips instead of the rubber Hogue mono grips with gold S&W medallions that I sent it in with. I called, they apologized, and are sending me a new set of Hogues but w/o medallions because they are not available anymore. Bummer! I guess the lesson learned is to send your gun in with ****** grips on it in case they get switched or lost. Somebody else got a nice set of grips though.

Just a tip, next time send the gun in without the grips. They don't need the grips to repair the gun.

Default Don't send grips!

Never send your gun with any grips. They don't make a difference for any work done.

Oops. Its their livelyhood but your life. Big difference. No excuse for not returning the grips that were on it.

Just got an email from S&W today that they shipped my 686 back to me and should watch for delivery as I have to sign for it. It came two days ago!

I got my 586 back from them early last weeks after 6 weeks in the shop for the recall barrel swap and a refinish. They did a great job, unfortunately they sent it back with the buggered up grips it had on it and not a nice set of Hogue mono grips with gold S&W medallions.
