Yes it is a MOD.66 no dash
it was my dads service revolver

I am by no means an expert, but I thought all 66's were stainless. I know my 66-1 is and all others I've seen pics of. These are GREAT guns, my favorite of my small collection.

should be stainless, if you change grips make sure you don't loose the originals

I remember when our local PD went to the model 66s' in '72-74 time frame and they were almost impossible for the general population to aquire. Those guns served them well for 20 years before they switched to 4043s'. Most of the officers kept theirs and a few had them polished out to where they looked like nickel, till you put one side by side and you'll see the nickel has a "yellow" cast to it compared to the stainless. The very first 66s' had a stainless rear sight and are very rare.

Fantastic revolver that he gave you as I have my dad's only revolver that he gave just before he passed away. It's a Model 10-5 with 6 inch slender barrel and it only had less then 50 rounds through it. It is very special to me and will go to one of my sons with the undersatnding that it should never be sold outside the immediate family.

That is absolutely wonderful as we see people up here from time to time saying Dad or Grandpa gave his revolver and what's it worth as I have no use for guns. I feel the exact same way as you and I have two like minded sons who will carry on the tradition and keep it in the family.

Save it forever. I have a 66 dash 2 and absolutely love it. by far my most favorite gun.
