Thunder ranch 44 spc-Value?
I was looking at one a few hours ago, asking price was $600. It was classed at 98-99%, looked unfired to me and had a slight bolt wear ring around the cylinder.
I have seen them in the past new and passed by them, but 600 seems like a not-too-shabby deal. I am still undecided.

I can't get past the lock, nor the fact that Clint had his made without the lock - I wouldn't pay $300.00 for it.

Yea, but I don't have any ignition key models yet. I was thinking of it as a shooter.

Seems like an excellent buy to me. I picked up a TRR325, love it. Shoots great and I'll bet it'll never lock in a million years... without a key...

that's a good price if it's in good shape (price might be a little too good, so be careful).
case in point, there's a 22-4 on gunbroker for a pretty good price too, but if you look closely you'll see that the front sight looks like it was filed down by a baboon.

Is this Internet legend or verified fact? I never read this before.

If I remember correctly, the article in the gun magazine at the time showed his without the lock. I remembering slobering at the time thinking about one of them without the lock, but that faded quickly.
Regards,
Chuck

$600 seems to be a good deal to me. A new one cost me $750.

ExMachina1,
Good point. The gun looked excellent, but the right grip panel seemed to have a very slight amount of play while handling it, yet I couldn't purposely duplicate it.
Thanks for all the input, guys. That's what I like about this place, never disappoints.

it's cosmetic. nothing else.
i'm willing to wager that clint's revolver didn't have the gold TR plate on the frame either.

21-4 is a great gun. Bought one recently from a local gunshop for $525 OTD. However, I think it was just a case of being in the right place at the right time. Mechanically it is one of the best fitted revolvers I've ever owned. Cosmetically the bluing is simply flawless, perfect in every respect. The grips are perfect. Carried it this afternoon while doing a little woods walking. Loaded with Blazer 200gr. Gold Dots, it's all anyone could ever need or want for the woods, or the nightstand. As far as the lock and MIM parts are concerned, it's not worth the time it takes to think about it. If all new S&W revolvers are this good, we're all going to have a lot of fun.

These are very nice guns. I bought one of the early ones and have never had a problem. It's very accurate and the fixed sights shoot to point of aim, for me anyways. The blue is beautifully done. Also the dreaded lock has never caused any problems, on this or any of the other lock guns I've got. It was a little over $700 when I bought it new, so $600 seems fair.

I just bought a new 21-4 for 569.00 shipped. It is an excellent gun. A new N frame with a lifetime warranty in 44 spec. What's not to like. The lock means nothing to me. The fit and finish are great and with ahrend wood grips. Pictured with 22-4 square butt.

With the gold "Thunder Ranch" billboard on the side and the IL? It's worth maybe $400 as a shooter (but not to me). With no billboard and no IL? I'd pay up to a $1000 for a new one.
In other words, I want one like Clint's. Will S&W build one like that for me? Nah, I'm not important enough. Hell, I'm just a customer...

What Ridgeway said.
That gold medallion thing would be the deal killer for me.
Prefer my 44s to be the plain ones.

Very happy with mine. Accurate, dependable, and snag-free.
That seems to be the going price for these in the last few years.
