Timeless beauty, and I would like every one of the posts except most are a couple of years old now (which I didn't notice until I was well into the thread!)

Hard to pick the prettiest, and I wouldn't even dare try.

That ebony and stainless combination, though, is really something! The other woods, too, are simply gorgeous. Thanks for sharing your stocks, guys!

Roasted Birdseye Maple, Love these grips but the palm swell is just to much for my hand.

Matt, I love all 4 of your revolvers. Can you enlighten us on how you shined up this 686?

Did you polish it repeatedly with Mothers Mag Wheel Polish, or Flitz, and then use Renaissance Wax on it after polishing?

I love how it came out. I polish my Nickel 27-2, and both my 629s, and they look good, but your 686 should be in a book or a magazine.

Tom -
Thank you for the nice words.
I completely stripped it down, sanded, wheel buffed and hand rubbed to where it is right now.
I like the high gloss finish on this and the 629.
As to not hijack this thread, another shot of Kurac stocks in ebony

I am a very big fan of Kurac's grips. They are reasonably priced, with excellent fit and finish. Their customer service is top notch. Considering the price of original combat grips, I feel they are a real bargain. Prices vary depending on the type and grade of wood and options, with or without medallions.

As others have said, one set is not enough. I have a half dozen so far, with several more sets commissioned.

Trying to attach a few photos. My photography and internet skills are about equal, not very good. Hope this works, Bob.

In the post above, this display was at the NE Ohio bunch on Sept 13. Bob was one of the new attendees and had a nice display of 3" guns. At first I thought he was doin a Kurac grip display. He seems to want to keep Kurac in business. If I have time, I 'll take 2 pics of Kurac's first set that are on my 1917. He actually started out trying to make the 1917 grips, Larry

Here's his first set, guess it was hard to make the round part that fits in the frame. Didn't seem to make many sets like this for the N frame guns before he started making the grips as we now know him for. Here is my 1917 wearing the grips, Larry

Those might be the first set of 1917 grips I made but I know they are not the first or second set of grips that I carved up, I still have those.

The first set I ever made was Cocobolo, the second set was Macassar Ebony which is the whole reason why I even tried making a set of grips. All I wanted was a nice set of ebony grips for a 4" 624 that I picked up and now look what happened. Now I make grips every day.

Everyone who handles these is impressed with the quality,
fit, and finish.

English walnut on engraved 629 , 45 Colt.

Different light shows grain and figuring well, differently.

Good luck,
Allen Frame

A horrible cell phone picture, but here is a set of blonde maple Kuracs on a rare S&W Model 657-4 .41 Magnum Lew Horton. I sold off the grips, but I still have the .41 Mag. In person the grips were extremely nice.

Thank you, Vette! It was different working with Cocobolo and I'm glad I researched it some beforehand. The finish on these was done with CA glue - basically Super/Krazy glue because the wood contains so much natural oils regular finishes would take forever to completely dry. Also, dust from these woods can also be toxic to skin, eyes and nose/throat. The more you know...

I just had John Custom make me 5 sets of K/L RB Combats. They are quite Amazing. The Olive is my favorite. It's very hard to find this wood as it's more of a bush. If that makes sense

OLIVE

ROYAL WALNUT

COCOBOLO

COCOBOLO

RED COCOBOLO

I can add a couple. First are a set of exhibition Claro walnut on a model 29. I provided the wood and did the finishing. I love how they look in the sunlight

Here's a set on my new to me 686. I can't even remember the wood now, I'm so amazed by the feel of these. These are considerably thicker across the back than the other Kurac grips I've held, and I'm not complaining. They aren't the classic Coke bottle size, but I don't mind.

I just bought a set of circassian walnut to go on my 17-4, also.

Some of the best grips I have run across. Only found out about 2-3 months ago. I started replacing all the rubber grips that ended up on my S&W guns around Christmas. I Bought Eagle, Altamont which turned out to be laminate, Esmeralda which were nice on my J frame, Nills and of course Hogue. I ordered several sets of Hogue and was dissapointed in the beauty of the wood I was sent. I complained and got a decent set for the next one. I finally saw a post John made on a FB page. It was like this is what I have been looking for. As you can tell I have already bought a few sets in several months with more to come.

You can't go wrong with John's (Kurac) grips!! When you see a pair of his wood grips on a gun that once had goodyears it is a definite upgrade to me. His "woodpile" must be awesome. He offers some real unique wood at times. One of the coolest was "Snakewood"! I think it is pretty rare and fairly expensive, but looks terrific.

Just brought this 29-2 home yesterday, and these roasted Birds Eyed maple Kuracs have been waiting for the right gun. Well, this is the right gun. A 6" (not 6.5") pinned and recessed 29-2 from ~1980.

They look amazing on this S&W

And here it is with some other members of the Family:

With my 28-2, also Wearing Kuracs (Royal Walnut)

With my 19-4 Wearing Pink Eucalyptus Kuracs:

With my 629-1 wearing Cocobolo Kuracs:

With my 629 (No Dash) Wearing Keith Browns. Two Uncommon 44 Magnums both wearing amazing handles. Is this a great Pic, or what?

They look really great Tom! I especially like the picture of them with the Pink Eucalyptus because it shows the incredible figure the Birdseye has. Nice KB grips too with the inlay. You've got a nice collection going!

The roasted Maple is heated at a low temperature in a kiln. We buy it that way, though John sometimes does his own which gives the wood a slight sandy color. The low heat brings out the depth, figure and chatoyance in the wood. The roasted Maple is really unreal to look at in person; incredibly pretty!

I did a search on the web and found no contact for this grip maker, how do you get in touch with them? Do they have a website?
