586 Price Check (pic added)
I've been away from the revolver world for a couple of years but came across a really nice 4" 586-3 at a local shop that seemed to call my name. The gun is in excellent condition except for wear on either side of the barrel right at the muzzle. The shop is asking $430 out the door. So, is this a good price for a nice condition blue 586-3 model wearing the original Magna grips?

I've only seen a couple and they are closer to $500. The one at the shop here is $495 plus tax. So I'd say it's a pretty good deal but. $430 is one of the lower prices I have seen

That is a fair price for a 4" 586 in my opinion. If I was looking for a 586 I would probably buy it if everything checks out on it.

I would definitely buy it. 586's are superb shooters. I was just shooting my 6 inch 586 last night and it is one of my most accurate, easy to be accurate with handguns.

Sorry friend, you blew it when you said it "seemed to call my name". At that point what does it matter? If you can afford it, and you WANT it, then it is all over.. Kyle

The 586 is one of the most accurate and resilent 357s Smith ever made.
I bought a 4" with some blue wear on the bbl for $400. three years ago and I wouldn't take $700 for it now.

I went to the range this morning with my 6" 586-1, and concur that it is indeed a very easy revolver to be accurate with (especially with the .38's!). I still need to work on my unsupported double action accuracy, but single action off the bench it's a real tackdriver at 25yds.

Well, I got it. Price was $415 out the door, a little better than I was first quoted. Can't wait to give it a try and at the price I paid, I feel I can at least get my money back if it doesn't impress me at the range.
Here's a pic:
