Hello all, Just got my new Model 60 3 inch in. I held a 640 at the gun show and thought it was a good size, but when I got the 60 it was a bit oblong until I got used to the size of it. Does J-frame usually come in a cardboard box? I thought all come in a blue plastic case. I was put off by that, at least I should have gotten a case for the money I spent. The grips seem a bit small to me, they didn't fill my hand and feels pretty empty. The new grip design wasn't cut for speedloaders, as the earlier models were, which irked me. How do you measure the cylinder/barrel gap? and does the cylinder suppose to wobble a bit(When hammer down)? when it locks up(Hammer back) it's pretty tight and not moving at all. And what's the point of the safety lock if you can lock the hammer back and put the safety lock on( and it also locks the cylinder from opening as well)?

anyway, the finish it pretty good, except for the hidden frame when the cylinder yolk is(Which is not buffed out, looks pretty raw) and the Trigger and hammer also look cheap.

I'll let the more experienced S&W authorities respond to your questions. I think you'll be very pleased by the 3" 60. I snagged a 60-4 (.38 Spl.) years ago, and it remains one of my favorite wheel guns. When a woman friend of mine became interested in owning/shooting/carrying a handgun, I offered her the opportunity to shoot various revolvers and autos. After the session, she chose a new 3" Model 60. The heavy barrel 3" J frame is easy to conceal and has enough sight radius and weight to shoot well. I just think the frame size/barrel configuration works especially well.

I just checked S&W's site - no mention of a box - directed me to Davidson's Gallery of Guns' site - they list it as $759 MSRP - and with a cardboard box! Oddly, my 3" 60 Pro, SKU 178013, only listed for $20 more now - $779! My wife bought it for me in January - they had one back on the shelf my last visit. It's a keeper.



Mine came in a blue plastic box. Packaging is unimportant to me - as long as they'll stow away easily. Mine go in a cheap $5 zipup gunrug when I get home with them - then into the safe, when not enroute to/from the range - or CC.

You'll love that 3" 60 - it really is a good size, allowing some carry - and, certainly, a bunch of fun plinking. The trigger will breakin with wear, too. Congratulations - and welcome aboard! Thus far, I have only launched homebrew .38 Specials - or my my wimpy .357 Magnums with it. It's a fun size.

My 3" 60 is my favorite field carry gun, carrying it with me afield at least weekly. With its full-lugged barrel and adjustable sights, I found it quite easy to sight in at 50 yards. I certainly would not fell uncomfortable sending a shot toward a 75 yard coyote with it.

Lock up is checked with the trigger held all the way back and the hammer down (the way it is when it's fired).

Don’t do that, read the manual. The internal lock is a storage device and is intended to be used on an empty gun only with the hammer down. It locks the hammer in place which prevents you from pulling the trigger, but you can still open the cylinder. FYI, the cylinder will not open when the hammer is back, you'd damage the hand.

the 3 inch barrel model 60 is my all time favorite s&w revolver i love it in fact every time i see one i drool like a dog

The older S&W's came with the cardboard box, but I'm not sure exactly when the switch was made. My 442 from 1993 came in the cardboard box. Hope that helps . . .
