Unhappy Resurrection of abused Mod. 17-6

I have been considering a 22LR handgun for a while now and the Colt SAA was always on the top of the list. However the raves on this forum for the Mod.17-6 and earlier 22 LR revolvers convinced me. So I won this auction for this abused 17-6. I hope to resurrect it and will have to post a before and after. The serial number is BNT8723 if anyone can give me a guess as to its DOB it would be appreciated. It will be a companion on my ATV rides so I wasn't too concerned with its beauty. What do you think? Looks like it's from 1993. Gun is a little rough, but that may be the best looking set of combat's I have ever seen.

A little bit of cleaning up and oiling and that one will serve you and your grandkids with style and grace.

Good buy.

Only about $300 less than the going rate. A little oil and some 0000 brass wool and you will have a very nice revolver. Just go slow and easy with the wool!

Carl,

Don't worry this won't be the only 17 model you will own. LOL! The one you won should clean up on the outside the insides are usually in good shape,a good cleaning and a little lube and your good to go.

Fat Tom,could I ask where you buy your brass wool? I can't seem to find it and it should be the cats meow for cleaning surface rust.

Thanks in advance

Once you've removed the rust, alcohol the area once or twice, then use a cold blue like Oxpho (any gunshop has it) and then re oil. Good to go.

I have that same model I bought in 1989 for $370 and it is the most accurate 22 handgun I own. If you can get rid of that rust, you will love it.

Talking That's great guys.

Seems like a S&W revolver is a good investment, seeing I paid $460 for an abused version. More so when you consider it was retailing for less than $400 new.

I've never seen a 17 that wasn't worth at least what you paid. The pleasures of
attending to a little cosmetic attention will magnify your appreciation of it's performance.

If there is a better shooting 22 revolver than the 17s in existence anywhere, I'd like to see it.
