629-5 PC V Comp Question
I have a 629-5 PC V-Comp shipped in Oct. '01. SCSW says it's supposed to be 4"----it's 5"----error in the text? I noticed there's a .357 version in 5", seems logical the .44 would be produced in the same length. I've seen the .45 ACP version in 4"--anyone have a .44?

V-comp
Jim,
Are you measuring with or without the comp? My 3" 657 V-Comp is really a 4" with the comp and 3 3/4" with barrel extension/weight, but is listed as a 3" in the book, same with the 629.
It's my understanding that the listed length is without the comp as it can be added or deleted from the barrel.

V Comp
It measures 5" from the front of the cylinder to the end of the rifling. The compensator adds to that a little, but not much ( ~ 1/4" ), because of the recess in the back.

V-Comp
Look on page 260 and 343 of the standard catolog, there is a 5" V-Comp listed from RSR with stock number 170148.

Thanks Mike--I'll try to remember to check all the lists in the future. Still like to see a 4" in .44, if anyone has a pic.

The 627 and 629s were 3" and 5"
The 625 was the 4"

V Comp
Both locations Mike mentioned list 4" RSR production runs. There must be some out there somewhere.

It appears that the 4" 629 variant is currently being made. One is on GB right now.

I have the 4" or 4.25 inch version from 1999, pre lock.
it looks pretty much just like this new one listed at smith and wesson, only the one I have has no lock and wood combat grips with no medallions.
Product: Model 629 V-Comp
