Default 617 Barrel Finish

I have just taken delivery of a brand new 617. On inspection of the barrel interior I have found machine like marks towards the muzzle end. I am not sure what finish I should expect from this model.

I am used to dealing with rifle target barrels and the comparison is like chalk and cheese. I have not fired it yet so cannot comment on accuracy.

Is this normal to expect this finish. I am in Australia and have waited a long time to get my hands on the 617 so I don't really wish to have to send it back.

Hopefully I am expecting too much!!

Thanks

Talking

I'm not sure of what you are actually describing here as my 617 is a no dash 6 round revolver but if you can get a picture of what you are talking about I'm sure someone up here can give an accurate answer.

Not sure, are the marks there after a good cleaning with the appropriate size bore brush and cleaner? If they are still present it sounds like sloppy machining that shouldn't have passed barrel or final inspection...

Hope it's the former not the latter. Please keep us informed,if it's funky machining it's becoming all to common a story from Smith&Wesson these days.
