Is there such a thing as a 1 7/8" "Heavy Barrel" Model 60 in .38spl?
I have a no-dash Model 60 with the regular weight (standard, skinny) barrel and am wondering if there was ever a short-barreled (1 7/8" or 2") version in .38spl only.
Anyone know, or better yet, can direct me to pics showing the differences in barrel weight or diameter?
Thanks in advance!

1 7/8" barrel for 38SPL has always been the smaller profile. The only heavier profile that I know of on the 1 7/8" barrel was on the 940 in 9mm.
Hope that helps.

Roger that! How about the 3", would you happen to know if it was ever offered in .38spl with the full underlugged barrel?
Thanks for the reply!

Yes, that would be the 60-4. It has adjustable sights and the 3" full lug barrel. There may be another later dash number, too, but I'm out of town and don't have my SCS&W with me.
The 36-1 has a 3" heavy barrel, but not full lug...

The 60-4 was the only 3" Model 60 in 38 Special with a full underlug barrel. I couldn't find a picture of mine by itself, but that's it at the top right. By way of comparison, that's a 1-7/8" 60-7 to it's lower left (with smooth rosewood grips):

Thanks for the info. and pics! Frailer, nice groups of guns! That 640 is something else, though!

mg70,
There was also a model 60 with the 3 inch heavy barrel. Not many produced. Looks just like a model 36-1 except in stainless of course. Dean

Charles, Frailer and Cocked & Locked - thanks for sharing the pics. They say a picture's worth a thousand words and it couldn't be truer, especially here on the Forum. Of course now I want a 60-4 with that 3" barrel! Frailer.... it's all your fault!

+1
Ok, so there were only two types of short .38spl barrels, either a 1 7/8" (aka 2") barrel with the same contour as Frailer's rosewood-handled 60-7, or a 3" heavy barrel much like that on his 640, except with either milled sights or the pinned, regular, sight blade, correct?
I've seen pics of 2" or 2.125" .357Mag Model 60s and was under the impression there would be some in .38spl as well...
At least now I know what to keep an eye out for.
Thanks again!
