S&W 686-5 3" barrel DAO W/Night Sights. Any info appreciated.
I have this 686-5 3" barrel double action only with night sights.
S/N CDU0XXX
Anyone have any info on these guns? No CS stamp inside crane. Very very smoothe trigger, and light too.
FYI: This gun will be for sale.

I like it, just bought a model 10-7 almost identical in discription, DAO, bobbed hammer, 3" barrel, real smooth and light trigger. I can't wait to shoot mine....

I'm guessing it was tinkered with. Here a 686-5+ the only thing I changed were the goodyears.

More guns on my list... as soon as I saw your SW1911 for sale, my 1st thought, he's wants the new E series.. I'm keeping my old 1911sc and ordering that E, can't decide which model yet, but I want one built this year for sure..

Id say the barrel is factory correct imo. Rollmark size for the 686-5 was the last year of the small mark IIRC. I have a 2.5" and have been beating the bushes for over 2 years looking for one. Not an easy animal to find. Later variants, up to today, use a much larger size marking.
As to the sights, I suspect those were aftermarket installed, or ordered that way from Smith (PC was running an option then IIRC with either the 686+ variant perhaps?). So...perhaps the original owner upgraded the sights at time of order, or did an upgrade on his/her own later.
Not sure that helps you with regards to the sights...but I'd bet money the barrel is original to the model at time of manufacture. In any event, if you'd like a "true verified original" 2.5" 686+ I'll talk to you about a swap perhaps.

It looks like a factory 686-5 3" with a lot of nice custom work done to it. I've owned a few of those 3"ers and they are nice. It doesn't surprise me that someone would want to turn a cool carry gun into super cool carry gun.
