I've posted this photo before, but here are my two no-dash 617s.

It's hard to imagine a nicer, more enjoyable handgun.

617 no dash. I'd love to find a 4 inch no dash.

I think that when you find that elusive four-inch no-dash, your six-incher will see a LOT less trigger time. The shorter gun just hangs in the hand so much better and mine is actually a little more accurate than my longer one.

I shot my six-inch a month ago for the first time in - well - years and only because I had replaced the factory rear sight assembly in that photo with a Millett like the one on the four-inch and wanted to sight it in.

I'm one of those who finds K/L Combat stocks horribly uncomfortable yet I like them on a square-butt N-frame and find that Target stocks fit me acceptably. As it is equipped in that photo, my four-inch 617 is about the perfect revolver.

I agree Ed. I have the 6 inch because it fell in my lap for a great price, but would much rather have the 4inch no dash to complement my -4, 10 shot 617

What would be the price difference between a 4 and 6 inch no dash 617, and in which one's favor?

This is my 617 no dash. Purchased from a guy who was an engineer at S&W who had it fitted with a 10 round cylinder, have the 6 round and parts to convert it back.

No dashes just look ....right... with the combat stocks on them. It really does not matter if the stocks are good,or comfortable, they just look right with them. My no dash came with the rubber grips and while they are comfortable, thats all I can say about them.

I bought the grips from a member up here and then he offered me the revolver also so they got back together the way it left the factory. I also bought several pairs of S&W combat grips off of EBay back when they were about $100 a set but these were what came on the revolver according to the seller.

Default I'm glad this old thread was revived.

I had ordered my 617 two months before this thread was originally started. I had hoped to post some pics of my new Smith when I got it but it took me 7 months to finally find one to buy. Here's my chance to show off my long barreled friend.

On one of my wildest days ever at a LGS, I found this 617 no dash along with a LNIB Lew Horton 3" 29-3, LNIB 5 1/2" Model 41 and 98% 6" Python. Finding these all in one place was great, but to find them reasonably priced was even better!

617 4" has moved to the top of my list to purchase. And a 686, 66, et al. Great idea to take a pawn shop 'run' on occasion. As the other posters demonstrate, it can happen. I suspect I'll suck it up and get the IL, even though I'd prefer to avoid it on principle. In case you haven't seen this youtube on the 617, it's worth the time.

I'll join in the fun. Here's my no-dash 4". This one goes in the range bag on every trip, no matter what else I'm bringing to shoot!

Look like Ahrend's round butt grips to me?

Here's one more - wearing grips by Craig Spegel. This is one fine-shooting six gun.

Thanks one and all for a great picture thread. I don't have one, as of yet, but am looking forward to putting one in my hand when I can find one in my neck of the woods.

Just picked this up this 617-2 with aluminum cylinder a week ago today.
It came with the scope mount and no factory rear sight.
Making due with the red dot sight for now...

Nice grips...who makes them?

Also - Can anyone comment on the finish on this -3 revolver and my -2 (pictured above)? Is it a bead blast? Only offered in that time frame?
