Default Frequency of Target sights on a 586?

I have been looking at a 6 inch 586 or 686 to shoot Distinguished Pistol (PPC) matches with. I have noticed that the majority of those for sale have the adjustable rear sight with the red ramp front sight but a few have the adjustable rear with the patridge front sight. Are these patridge sight guns a lot less common? Any idea of the percentage of guns made with the patridge sights? Should they bring a premium?

In my observations nearly all the 586/686s have the Baughman or ramp front sight. The Silhouette (adjustable front) sighted ones have the Patridge, but I believe the front blade can be changed or could have been special-ordered. I doubt there is a premium, but a 586 collector may disagree.

I think most of the patridge sighted guns were the first few years. If you plan on shooting distinguished with it and you want to be able to use a neckhold at 50yds you will have to have a taller front and rear sight installed anyway.
So if you find a good one just take it to a smith and have them mill it for the taller front.Check somne of the PPC forums someone may have one for sale. I will check around for you. Good Luck ,Bob

I remember the front sight you're talking about. I think it was offered in the mid to late 80's. It was for PPC. It had 4 settinds for 7,15.25 and 50 yards,I believe. It was kind of hard to dial in and didn't stay in the catalog very long if I remember correctly. I wish it was still offered.

6" is the barrel length limit for PPC and the front adjustable model is ok for the open class but not allowed for Disstinguished match.
Kshock have you thought about a 14-6 or 7 the k frame with and underlug they came with taller patridge sights on them some guys can shoot neckhold without changing the sights. They dont come around very often but can be found they are extremely accurate and the most popular model for distinguished because most of the open guns are k frames and the loaders and other ppc gear is interchangable. Just a thought,L frame is a bit heavier though.

When the 586 came out I bought one for leg matches. I had to have a patridge front sight fitted and change the rear sight to a taller one. I believe it is the same blade as a model 41, black no white outline. I finally got my distinguished two years ago!
