model 648
I just joined the forum yesterday, and I have tried using the search but no luck. Maybe I'm not doing it right, so right now I'll just ask the memebers. I would like some information on the model 648, like what years were they made, are they any good, what are they worth. I bought one from a friend a few years ago, he didn't save the box or any of the papers (whished he had). It has a six inch barrel and Smith & Wesson finger groove grips. Overall I would rated it about 95%. I don't shot this gun near enough, I should though it seems to be the most accurate revolver I have. Any help will be appreciated.

It appears to be a great gun from what I've read. I have a buddy with several Model 48's and they're fun to shoot.
Anyway, there were two separate production runs of the 648. 1989-1994, and another one 2003-2005. The 648 came out in 1989, 648-1 in 1994, and the 648-2 in 2003. The -2 was the addition of the beloved internal lock...

648
Thanks Rawhyde, I guess I'm lucky. The one I have has no dash on it, just 648. Smith and Wesson must have not made many of them, because it is rare to see one listed on any of the auctions. Thanks again.

I think the seller is doing the right thing by getting it fixed before sending it to the buyer. I am curious, what was the problem with it?

Since it was originally sold to my buddy, we wish they'd called us when it returned from S&W. According to the GB description, all it needed was to be cleaned up under the extractor star. .22 mags are nasty about getting unburned granules under the star and tying up the gun.

Nicholas, I guess I will try to rejuvenate this thread too.... What did you or others learn of the current value of 648's, 6" SST, no dash, with combat (wood) grips? I stored mine again after a sale fell thru a couple years ago...
