changing pinned front sight in 627 pro series

So I have an appropriate punch and a new gold bead sight. The only thing that concerns me is the drilling. Can't I just knock out the old sight and super glue in the new one? be gentle i am just asking can certainly take to gunsmith and wait 2 weeks and then have to call and remind them

I've got good news and possibly bad news for you.

I just checked the S&W site and, as I thought, the 627 Pro features the DX interchangeable front sight system. This means that no pins need removing, the sight blade is retained by a dovetail base in a spring loaded nest. To change the front sight all you have to do is push it towards the rear of the gun against the spring pressure and lift it out by tipping the front up and then fishing it out of it's nest. Note, if you feel the front "catching" it means that you haven't pushed it far enough to the rear. Once you have it out you'll understand how these sights are retained, IMO it's a rather clever scheme.

The potential bad news is that you've possibly purchased the wrong front sight blade. If the base on your new sight is a half round profile, you have a sight blade for the older pinned sights. What you want is a sight blade with the dovetail base, those will slide right in.

First off thanks for the excellent reply. I have had the gun for about 6 months bought new and it has the non-pinned set up that you mentioned. So looks like I have an old style for sale to someone. That does sound like a much better set up. I should have done a bit more research, am basically a Sig guy but couldn't resist the big N smith and 8 shots

Thanks again

Yeah, well I'm still stuck in the S's, 4 Smith's, 2 Sigs, and one Springfield.

Which springfield? I have the EMP in 40 cal, nice for CCW. I am thinking about the range officer in 45. I can't see plunking down 2 or 3 grand for a 1911. Though maybe if I shot one I would think differently. I can buy a number of guns for 3k.

back to the topic then I can get a fiber optic and a gold bead, much better. Anyone need a gold bead old style pinned sight for a decent price?

received gold bead front sight and it got interchanged just as advertised. What a slick design. I may order a light pipe one.
