Default 19-2 question

I saw on Auction Arms a 19-2 4" barrel for a buy it now 429. I like to get back to shooting a wheel gun and I thought the 357 would be great . I could shoot a lot of 38's for targets and such and have the 357 for trips to the back country. My question is this a good model to go for and is this the price range that I can expect. Thanks to all the experts out there

If it's in good shape I think that is a very good price and will meet your stated needs very well. I have a 6" 19-2 and enjoy shooting it at the range with .38s.

Welcome to the forum.
That is about the starting price for a good S&W 357 mag. and I believe the M19 would serve you well. If you spend alot of time in the woods you might look at a stainless steel model for a little more protection from the elements. A M66 would be the SS brother of the M19.
If you plan on shooting alot of 357s you might move up to the L frame M586 or SS M686. Then there's always the big N frames...choices, choices.
Let us know what you get.

I saw that one too.
It was tempting but the jeweled hammer and trigger scared me off.
Its a bit rough and after transfer and shipping gonna be more like $500.
A bit steep for a beater.
On the plus side the grips were nice.

Check on Gunbroker.com also - there are several nice looking model 19s
for around $400 no reserve price.

I don't think you could go wrong carrying a K frame, either the 19 or 66. I carry a 4" m19 myself when in the woods and a 2 1/2" m19 the rest of the time. Great weapons.

Bought a 4" 19-3 police trade-in a few years ago for a very reasonable price because it had some holster wear, end shake and the cylinder was hard to open & close, but a trip to S&W took care of all its mechanical ills and I ended up with a sweet shooter for less than $450 total.

I shoot .38spl in it most of the time, but I put a few .357mag through it occasionally.

To each their own, but I don't shoot .357mag with light bullets (135g and less) through it.
