Default Advice Needed: Broken 629-4 firing pin

Hello folks,

I'm new to the forums, and have been quietly reading to pick up knowledge from other users. I need your sage advice on fixing my newest revolver.

I've got a 629-4 in 2.5" that has a broken firing pin (front tip is gone), and I'm having real difficulty locating a replacement from S&W (discontinued / backordered) Midway USA, etc. All I seem to come across is the 629-5 or newer style pins.

Anyone have a good source for these items? Please feel free to reply, send a PM or Email.

Thank you,
-Brian

Hey Brain,
I keep telling people that parts for the pre-MIM are getting hard to find, and will go up in price 3 to 4 time the normal cost. Hope you find one and I will keep my eye open, I would look on gun broker for a parts gun kit ( one that has been demilled).

Some years ago the firing pin of my newish 629-4 (4-inch MG) broke and I had absolutely no luck in finding a replacement. In despair, I called S&W and they fixed it under warranty. And they paid shipping both ways.

In my case, the front tip of the hammernose snapped off while shooting. The customer service representative at S&W said that there were some firing pins out there that had not been properly heat-treated.

I would hope that S&W still has the parts. Good luck!

My brother in law found one at Numrich or Gun Parts Corp. I think you can Google them with both names. I have never had one break, but let me know if you find some. I would like to have some extra, just in case!
